  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820; it was between the pro-slavery and the anti-slavery. This was to balance the “slave states” and the “free states.” Three years later the Missouri Compromise was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in the Dred Scott decision.

           Harlem Renaissance
    The Harlem Renaissance was a cultural movement. This was to not have slavery. In the South they ended slavery. This movement was name after Alain Locke. Many Africans and the Caribbean colonies that lived in Paris were influenced by the Harlem Renaissance.

    The African American Civil Rights Movement was about all the steps that people took to make things better. This started In May, 1954 and ended in 1969. This was a combination of everything that happened when the civil war was going on, examples of the Civil Rights Movement would be, The ‘Little Rock Nine, Freedom Rides, Harlem Renaissance. Those examples are just some of the things that happened in the Civil Rights Movement. A lot of people stepped up and tryed to change people's lives.

    Rosa Parks was a 42 year old African American women who was on her way home from work on a bus, she sat near the middle of the bus, but ten seats back, all those seats were reserved for white people. People started coming on the bus when one man told Rosa that she had to get up, that seat was for whites only, but she refused to get up. By saying no to the man, she got arrested and convicted of violating the laws of segregation.

    This was an order that issued to all segments branches of the Executive Branch. This was during the Civil War. It was based on the president's constitutional authority as commander in chief of the armed forces; it was not a law passed by Congress.

    The “I Have a Dream Speech” was to end racism In the United States. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to end slavery and racism, so he gave a speech about how all black people should be treated as equal as every other person in the world. This was delivered to over 200, 00 civil rights supporters. By the end of the speech this speech was ranked the top America speeches in the 20th century.

    This act was the constitutional right to vote. This was affected on July 2, 1964. This act was signed by Lyndon Johnson.

    Loving v. Virginia
    This was a landmark civil rights decision of the United States Supreme Court. This idea was prohibiting interracial. It was argued on April 10th 1967, they decided it June 12, 1967.
  • Martin Luther King Assassination

    In the early evening of April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was enjoying a vacation in Tennessee, in a motel. He was standing on a balcony and someone shot him, he got shot in the face and neck. An hour later, at 7:05 PM. He was pronounced dead.

    Emmett Till Murder link. Emmett was born in July. Emmett was an African boy that was murdered in Mississippi, he was 14 years old when he died after flirting with a white women. Bryant's husband Roy and his half-brother J. W. Milam went to Emmett’s Uncle’s house they took him to the barn and beat him, gouged out one of his eyes, then they shot him right threw his head. His body was found three days later by a river.
