    Ada can’t resist and sees a figure, that seems to be Inman, appear behind her. The figure is walking towards her and a sudden flash of crows fly’s by Ada and the figure she then sees has fallen. Ada from this point on was looking for clues or signs that would relate to the haunting image in the well.

    o When Ada meets Ruby, Ruby starts off as very hard and illiterate as where Ada begins her journey as soft, delicate and educated. Meeting Ruby gave Ada the push and shove to work and live on the farm, waiting for Inman.

    Teague offers Ada his hand, saying he comes around often, and Ada bluntly denies his offer. This signifies the change in her attitude towards herself. She now is confident in who she is and what she can do because she has turned down companionship as well as money from a man.

    The stars are the symbol that lets the viewer or audience into the girls, Ruby and Ada’s lives. Ada knew the stars simply from her studies and books she read as a child. Ruby had to learn the names and ways of the stars by means of survival. This shows the deep split between the two’s pasts but it also symbolizes how each past has came together and had made equal grounds just from different paths.

    When Ada sees the death of Pangle we as the audience can see her defeat and her pain. At this point in the story Ada becomes hard, and is beginning to loose hope for her beloved Inman to come home.

    When Inman came back, and saw Ada in the distance he called out. Ada, who had almost stopped believing that Inman would return, did not recognize him until he turned around.
  • Morals

    Morals
    In Inman’s return the night he and Ada share together can also be symbolic of Ada Monroe’s change. Ada’s father was a preacher and would have not agreed with her decision to have the relations Ada had with Inman before marriage. Ada knew this, and she knew that she loved Inman and was good as married to him in her mind. This scene shows her change in her morals as the war has progressed.

    When Inman dies, Ada finally sees the vision she saw years before in Sally’s well. Inman returned home in the scene of his death, we know this by his last words spoken, “I came back.” Ada had not finished her journey at this point and was heart broken by her loss and broken as a person for many years.

    After Inman’s death Ada was in a dark place foe sometime, always thinking about Inman and his and her loss. But she now had a child she loved and it was spring. Ada got over the death of Inman and came to love the land and her daughter. She felt the love of Inman in every thing on the farm. She returned home with the love of her land, her family, and the love for Inman.
