    In 1990 Jaycee's family decided to make a move. They moved houses because they wanted to live in a "safer community". They thought that Lake Tahoe would be the perfect place.

    Jaycee woke up this ordinary Monday morning waiting for her mom to kiss her goodbye on her way to work. Unfortunately she forgot about it and had already left for work. She headed out the door to walk to her bus stop. She day dreamt a bit while walking to her bus stop. What she noticed when she zoned out was the car passing by had stopped and pulled over for her. The driver asked for directions and before she noticed she was on the ground after being tazerd.

    When she arrived at his house she was taken into his washroom where she was stripped by him. She was forced to shower with him. About a week later Phillip, the man holding her hostage, goes to bring her food in the shed she is in. He handcuffss her hands behind her head and begins to rape her for the very first time.

    Several months after being held captive Jaycee got to meet Phillips wife, Nancy. Phillip introduced her and let her know that Nancy would from now on, be bringing her dinners. Over the years Nancy was controlled by Phillip and do whatever she was told to do. At one point she even told Jaycee she wish Phillip would have gotten sick the day she was kidnapped that way it would have never happened. She would feed and bring things for Jaycee.

    It has been about two years now that Jaycee has been held captive and abused. It is Easter and Nancy brings dinner out to Jaycee in the shed. Usually Jaycee was fed fast-food but this day she gets a homemade meal. She asked where Phillip was and Nancy told her he went to live on an island with his friend. Phillip was really in jail because he was found with drugs.

    After a few years of being held captive and being abused Jaycee was forced to change her own name. She chose the name Alissa. This was all part of Phillip and Nancy's ways of brainwashing her so she wouldn't feel the need to escape.

    Jaycee and was given a tv for her own entertainment but for the past while she was watching as many baby shows as she could to prepare herself for taking care of her child. She claimed giving birth was the most painful thing she has ever felt. Phillip watched videos on how to deliver a baby since he didn't want to take her to a hospital. At 4:35am fourteen year old Jaycee gave birth to her first daughter, with Phillip and Nancy's help.

    This was the day that Phillip rented a computer and bought a canon printer. He wanted to start a buisness to make more money and he would be able to print out things like buiness cards and wedding announcments. From this day until the day Jaycee was rescued Jaycee spent most of her time helping Phillip run the company and in the mean time she would use the computer to help teach her daughters basic things.

    Jaycee is now 9 months pregnant again, and ready to have her second child. Nancy got the towels and ot water and they flew into action just as they did before. This time she was only in labour for a short amount of time. At 2:15am her second daugter was born. This was also the day Phillip claimed god cured his sexual problem. Jaycee however would have to see it before she believed it.

    Around sometime in the year 1998 Phillip wanted to dsitiguish himself as the father as the girls and Nancy as the mother. He thought it would be to confusing for the girls to understand so he called Jaycee their sister. For the whole time they were held captive together Jaycee's daughters had always believed she was their sister and not their mother.

    In the spring of 98 Jaycee felt that all of her emotions were being bottled up so she decided to write them down on paper. Her very first journal entry was on this day and it was talking about how she felt she didn't know who she truley was. She wrote in her journal for years on end about her feelings, how much she missed her mom and things she wanted to do in life. Her last journal entry she ever wrote was on May 1, 2007.

    The girls are now aged 1 and 4 and Phillip and Nancy are trying to make them seem like a family. They start to go out to public places more like the market and the beach. They celebrated the fourth of July as a "family" on a rooftop watching fireworks. Her youngest is picking up on the words "dada", "mama", and "lissa".

    When Jaycee was kidnapped not only did she lose everything including her mom but she also lost her half sister. Shayna was just a baby whem Jaycee was taken but Jaycee loved her and played with her all the time. In 2006 on January 16 Jaycee woke up and yelled "happy sixteenth birthday shayna!!" Jaycee always tries to remember and reminice on the good times she had before sure was kidnapped, it helps her get through the day.

    On this day in 2006 the Garridos neighbour called the police reporting suspicious behaviour. The police came to the house but stepped no further then the front door. To this day people are calling this a huge missed opportunity and questioning the polices behaviour.

    This was the day Jaycee was waiting for, for almost her entire life. Phillp took his whole family to the parole office this day and they all had a whole story made up on why he should be able to get off parole. Jaycee was asked to step into a different room as well as Phillip. Phillip confessed and Jaycee and her and daughters became free. After 18 years Jaycee was finally allowed to say her name again and she got to make a phone call to her mom.

    After the discovery of Jaycee there was tons of comotion and media all over it. Jaycee missed out on 18 years of her life and missed out on many milestones like getting her lisence, graduating, going to prom, going out with her friends and so on. So this was the start of something new for her. Jaycee and the rest of her family went and are still going to therapy and are beginning to shape their lives back together with the support from eachother.

    As you can imagine the media was all over Jaycee and obviously she was quite stressed and frightened. However by this point Jaycee and the girls were settled in with her mom. She wanted to make some phone calls to her long lost friends and invite them to visit and catch up on life.

    Phillip and Nancy pleaded guilty
    Two years after the discovery of Jaycee, Phillip and Nancy finally pleaded guilty. Phillip was sentenced 431 years to life and his wife Nancy was sentenced 36 years in prison.

    It took a lot of work for Jaycee to get the courgage to write this book about her time in captivity, but she did it. She wanted to help and reach out to others going through difficult times and teach them to care for themselves and speak up. In 2011 Jaycee officially published her book called "a stolen life" whcih is now a new york times bestseller.
