The Van and Prison of Jaycee Lee Dugard
While in the van, Jaycee was lying flat with a blanket and something heavy on top of her. They arrived at a house where the man and a woman lived. He forced her to take a shower with him. When finished, he gave her a towel and led her to the backyard. Here, he put Jaycee into a small room and handcuffed her. He told her if she tried to escape the dogs outside would attach her. The man came to feed her and let her go to the bathroom once a day. This routine continued for a week.

    The Kidnapping
It was a Monday morning like any other. Jaycee Dugard went through her normal routine to get ready for school. She made herself breakfast, packed her lunch, and went out the door. As she walked to the bus stop at the top of the hill, a van pulled up alongside of her. A man rolled down his window and began asking for directions. He suddenly shocked her with a stun gun. Jaycee tried to crawl into nearby bushes but the man pulled her into the van and drove away.

She wrote about the places she wanted to go and the things she hoped to one day do in her life. She also vented her feelings when her and Phillip would get into fights. She talked about her children growing up and the things she wished they could do, like go to school and get an education. The entries continue until May 1, 2007.

Phillip and Nancy decided to take Jaycee and the girls to the beach so they could be a normal family. They swam, walked on the beach, and had a picnic. A few weeks later, Nancy took Jaycee to have her nails done. Jaycee was not out again until her youngest daughter turned two. Then Philip took everyone to the Brentwood Cornfest. By this time Nancy had cut Jaycee’s hair very short and dyed it dark brown. She had also gained weight from her pregnancies. No one could possible recognize her.

She was also angry because she thought everyone had forgotten about her and did not realize who she was.
  • The Rescue

    The Rescue
When Phillip arrived, the parole officer was confused as to why he brought minors. The girls were lead to the back of the building while Phillip was taken elsewhere. Jaycee gave the name Allissa and she was asked most of the questions. Phillip told the officer that the three children belonged to his brother. He eventually confessed to kidnapping Jaycee. On that day, Jaycee wrote her name for the first time in 18 years and set herself free.
