A Rose For Emily

  • Her father's death

    Her father died in the old house when she was a young women. His death left her alone and lonely, as she had had no other family, besides some people that she never talked to. Her father's death was believed to have been what set all the events in motion.
  • Denial

    Emily refuses to believe her father passed away and continues to tell everyone who offers condolences that he is not dead. This continues for three days before she eventually breaks down. They then bury her father quickly. People didn't believe then that she was crazy and thought it was something she eventually had to do.
  • Homer's Arrival

    Homer Barron arrives in town. Emily takes a liking to him and he starts to court her. He was a foremen with dark skin and light eyes. They would be seen together often.
  • Arsenic

    Emily goes to the drug store and asks for the strongest arsenic they have available. The clerk refuses to sell it to her but she continues to stare him down and he eventually gives in and gives her rat poison.
  • Homer's Disappearance

    After Homer returns, he is quick to disappear with absolutely no trace. The people in the town thought her left and didn't question it much.
  • Stench

    When the men go to Emily's home to claim taxes, thgey notice her house has a horrible stench and she does too. It had been a while since anyone saw her and she grew old and grey.
  • Lime

    The day after the men visited her house and smelt the terrible stench that she gave off, they sneaked into her lawn and sprinkled lime in hopes of ridding themselves of the smell. It eventually disappeared a couple of weeks later.
  • Emily's Death

    Emily passed away at the age of 74 in her home. We eventually find out she had been sick for a while and the only person who had been taking care of her had been a negro man that had delivered any items she needed.
  • The Funeral

    After she died, the entire town attended her funeral. The majority of the people went to see the inside of her house, while the men went as a sign of respect.Her cousins also attended and people came to see Emily after years between the last time she had been seen outside.
  • Surprise

    A few men decided to go into her house to check out one of the rooms upstairs that no one had seen in decades. They decided to wait a good while after she was buried before going into the room. What they found scared them. They found the body of Homer Barron, dead and rotting from the decades he had spent up there. Next to him, they found a single grey hair.
