Jul 1, 1942 It was decided that the raid would take place on July 4th, or the next day promising decent weather. Jul 7, 1942 Bad weather still occurs, the date is postponed. Aug 17, 1942 24 landing ships are being loaded with new cargo - tanks. Aug 18, 1942 Early: last day that the tides would suit the Allies. Aug 18, 1942 Late: 237 ships are loaded with troops and equipment. The ships set sail from four different ports. Aug 19, 1942 3:00 AM: Canadian, British & American Soldiers arrive seemingly undetected 8 miles away from Dieppe. Aug 19, 1942 3:48 AM: Allied ships run in to a German convoy. Aug 19, 1942 4:30 AM: Canadian, British & American Soldiers arrive on shore. Aug 19, 1942 5:20 AM: The main invasion force arrive on shore. Aug 19, 1942 5:35 AM: Allied armour makes it to the beach. Half of the tanks are lost by then. Aug 19, 1942 11:00 AM: Many are trapped, forced back or dead to a prepared German defence. Aug 19, 1942 2:00 PM: All living have been rescued from Dieppe, France.
