In 1778 British and Indian troops retook the fort in Vincennes, Indiana. Clark decided to set out for Vincennes to recapture the fort.

Despite Cornwallis' defeat in South Carolina he continued to North Carolina. British forced dsefeated the patriots at the battle of the Guilford Court House in March 1781.

An army of American and French forces combined made up an army almost twice the size of Cornwallis'. They fought and surrounded the peninsula so Cornwallis couldn't escape. Soon he was forced to surrender.
