    George Washington created an outpost called Fort Necessity and lead his militia in an attack on a small detatchment of French soldiers. The French immediatly counterattacked and eventually forced Washington to surrender. These battles were the opening of the French and Indian War.

    King George II was angered by the French victories, so he selected new leaders to run his government. One new leader was William Pitt, who reinvigorated the British army and finallyBritish to win battles.

    General James Wolfe lead British troops up the high cliffs that protected Quebec and attacked the French by surprise. The British won a short and deadly battle. The British triumph at Quebec led them to victory in the war.

    The Proclamation of 1763 was created the to avoid further conflicts with Native Americans, and banned all settlement west of the Appalachians. It established a Proclomation Line that the colonists were not allowed to cross.

    The French and Indian War officially ended with the Treaty of Paris. Britian claimed all of North America east of the Mississippi River, including Florida. Spain gained lands west of the Mississippi, including New Orleans. The Native Americans were also losers and found that the British were harder to bargain with thatn the French.
