    The Septuagint was is the first translation, or the earliest version, of the Hebrew Old Testament. It was translated frome Hebrew to Greek and is also known as LXX. The Septuagint became the Bible for Greek-speaking Jews and was widly read by early Christians.

    Jerome was the man who translated the Bible into Latin from the Septuagint into the Latin Vulgate. Jerome compleated the translation of the Latin Vulage in 405. Jerome was the first person to use a hebrew translation to make a Latin translation of the Bible, before this people used the greek translation of the Septuagint to make translations.

    John Wycliffe produced dozens of English language manusript copies of the scriptures . These where the first hand written english bible manuscripts. The pope did not like his translations of the Bible.

    Johann Gutenberg
    Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press in the 1450's in Mainz, Germany. The bible was the first book to ever be printed on a printing press. The bible that was printed was a Latin Bible. Now bibles could be quickly copied.

    William Tyndale
    William Tyndale was the first person to ever print the New Testament in the English language. He spoke eight different languages which helped him translate the bible. He was burned at the stake for treason because of his beliefs. His last words were " Lord, open the king of England's eyes."

    Miles Coverdale
    Miles Coverdale finished the translation of the Old Testement. On October 4, 1535 he printed the first compleated Bible in the English Language. This Bible became known as the Coverdale Bible.

    King Henry VIII

    King Henry VIII
    King Henry VIII contributed to the English Bible in a weird way. He wanted to divorce his wife and marry his mistress but the Pope refused to do so. So King Henry VIII ended up marrying his mistress anyways while still being married to his wife. This ment he would be executed so he broke away from the church and renoucnced Roman Catholicism. He allowed the first legal printing of the English Bible. This answered William Tyndale's prayer.

    The Great Bible i s the first Bible to be authorized for public use. This was due to King Henry VIII. He funded the printing of this Bible. Copies of the Great Bible were placed in parish chuches.

    The Geneva Bible is the first Bible to add numbered verses and chapters. Each chapter has marginal notes and references. The Geneva Bible is all the first Bible to be taken to America. It was taken to the United States on the Mayflower.

    The KIng James Bible is the translation of all translations. It was written by 50 scholars. It quickly became the standard Bible for English speaking Protestants.

    The Latin Vulgate is a Bible that was translated by Jerome from the Septuagint. It was translated from Hebrew to Latin. The Latin Vulgate has been used to create may other translations of the Bible such as the Douay-Rheims Bible, Ronald Knox's translation, and Lindisfarne Gospels. The Latin Vulgate was important because Latin replaced Greek as the international langue. It is the offical translation of the Roman Catholic Church.
