    Melbourne-Voyager collision
    The aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne collides with the destroyer HMAS Voyager, killing 82 people. Both the HMAS Melbourne and HMAS Voyager were set for the same course however the HMAS Melborne intercepted with the HMAS Voyer causing a collision. It was declared the worst peacetime naval disaster in Australian history.

    The Royal commison for the Melbourne Voyager opens. The controversial event had 2 royal commisions to investigate the evnt. The first commision was held to study the events of the collision while the second focus on the claims made by former officers that the captan of the HMAS Voyager was unfit to travel at the event.

    The Australian government fails to ratify the ILO convention on equal pay for women, resulting to total chaos. The women who protested for the rights demanded an apology and protestors started to protest again to proclaim a sense of equality among humans.

    In 1964 compulsory National Service for 20-year-old males was introduced under the National Service Act, 1964. It recieved a major setback from protestors especially the women. The national service require the boys to provide 2 years service.

    Queensland Government declares a state of emergency in an attempt to end an industrial dispute at Mt Isa mines.
    During 1964 the Mt Isa strike was one of the greatest strikes that happened. In September 1964 the Australian Worker’s Union led an eight-month industrial dispute against the mine after a disagreement on how the wealth of
    the productive field should be equally shared. As a result of this dispute the mine was temporarily closed and the Queensland Government declared a state of emergency in the region.
