  • Mao Zedong takes control of China

    He established the commmunist party and then later took control of China.

  • Korean War

    This lasted for 3 years all because Korea invaded south Korea

  • Soviet Invasion of Hungary

    The Soviets saw them as a weak country because of all the rebellion against the government so they came in and took what they wanted.

  • Vietnam War

    This war didn't end until 1975. Also known as the Second Indochina War. it was started by the Communist Guerrillas and they wanted to overthrow sounth Korea.

  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    This was between Cuba and the United States. The Soviet union was helping Cuba because they had no fire power and this was goin against the U.S. so we had to do something about it, this lead to the Bay of Pigs Invasion.

  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The United States had an unsuccessful attempt at over throwing Castro from Cuba rule becuse his ruling style was a dictatorship.

  • Fidel Castro Takes Over Cuba

    He became Prime Minister first then became the head of everything in cuba.

  • Soviet Invasion of Czechoslovakia

    Warsaw Pact forces--including troops from Bulgaria wanted to neutralize Czechoslovakia.

  • SALT Treaty Talks

    This had to do with weapons used in war such as the atomic bomb.

  • Nixon Visits China

    Nixon went to China to speak to Zhou Enlai to open a new political relationship because of all the problems they had in the earlier years.

  • Civil War in Nicaragua

    This was the people fighting for what they want from the government.

  • Revolution in Iran

    This was mostly a religious rebellion within the country becasue of the differences in religion at the time

  • Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

    The Soviets had always had their problems with them but them they finally came to a head and so they invaded.

  • Mikhail Gorbachev takes control of USSR

    He had been in the government for a long time but he finally took lead in the 1980's which was followed by his death in 1985 so it was a short rule.

  • Iran/Iraq War

    Iraq invaded Iran from their borders because all the political and territorial problems.

  • Soviet Union Falls Apart

    This was the begining but it didnt completly end until 1991 when Boris Yeltsin took over then there was nothing the Soviet union could do to stop it.

  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    The wall was opened finally but this caused widespread choas.
