  • Civil War in Nicaragua

    A civil war erupted between General Jose Maria Moncada and the government under Diaz, who requested and received military assistance from the United States. In 1927, US warships arrived and landed 2,000 Marines . Angry at American interference in Nicaraguan affairs, Sandino joined the war, engaging in guerrilla actions against the people.
  • Korean War

    The war was a result of the political division of Korea by agreement of Allies at the end of the Pacific War. The war was located on the Korean peninsula. The Korean War was between the Republic of Korea (supported by the United Nations), and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, (supported by the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union).
  • Vietnam War

    The Vietnam war started because American president Eissenhower did not want communism to spread throughout the world and eventually to America. Troops of the South, who had no leaders remaining , fled knowing defeat was coming. .
  • Soviet Invasion of Hungary

    This event was a nationwide revolt against the government of the Hungary and its Soviet driven policies. The revolt spread quickly across Hungary, the government fell, and the revolution was crushed.
  • Mao Zedong takes control of China

    Mao Zedong improved China's economy but he also killed millions who did not follow the communist ways. Mao Zedong was the Chairman of the People's Republic of China. His two most important acts were the Great Leap Forward in 1958 and the Cultural Revolution between 1966-1972.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    This event was an unsuccessful attempt by a force of trained Cuban exiles to invade southern Cuba, with support from US government armies. The goal was to overthrow the Cuban government of Fidel Castro.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    This event was a meeting between the Soviet Union, Cuba and the United States. Cuban and Soviet governments began to quickly build bases in Cuba for a bunch of nuclear missiles with the ability to strike the United States, so they met up to talk about this.
  • Soviet Invasion of Czechoslovakia

    Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union were part of the Warsaw Pact, an organization of the Communist states in Europe. In 1968 Alexander Dubcek decided to reform his country's military and media. He introduced forms of democracy. These were considered by the Soviet Union to be bad to the Communist Party and they thought the reforms would decrease the Party's power. Therefore, they attacked Czechoslovakia to prevent the reforms from showing up.
  • Nixons visit to China

    This event helped the relationship get better between the USA and China and it opened diplomatic relations between the two nations, Richard Nixon helped out so that these conntries could reach an agreement on this war.
  • Fidel Castro Takes Over Cuba

    In 1976 he became President of the Council of State as well as one of the Council of Ministers. He also held the supreme military rank of Commander in Chief of the Cuba army. Fidel Castro was a dictator that led caused a bunch of wars to take place.

  • Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

    The Soviet War involved the Soviet Union, supporting the Marxist government of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan.The mujahideen found other support from the United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt and other Muslim nations . the location ofthis war was Afghanistan and it was ten years long. Soviet troops entered Afghanistan along 2 routes and 1 air passage, quickly taking control of the major centers and military camps.
  • Iran-Iraq War

    This war was between Iraq and Iran, located on the Persian Gulf, Iraq attacking first. The war wasn't ver y productive because stalemate occured and both sides claimed victory. This was one of the very costly wars in the cold war.
  • Mikhail Gorbachev takes control of USSR

    Mikhail Gorbachev ruined the Soviet Union's economic system by bringing them into capitalism. Gorbachev simply gave into the time's imerialist and oppressive government of the USA.
  • The Fall of the Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall was the barrier separating the West Berlin from East Berlin. It fell because East and West Germany were being reuntied after years of separation by the Berlin wall. It went up as a symbol of divided Germany and fell down showing that Germany was reunited and that a wall was not needed to separate the people any longer.
