  • The Korean War Begins

    The Korean War impacted America the same as any war has in the history of America, food prices increased, the draft took many men away from their family, an incredible amount of money for the war to produce weapons and the grief of families across America because of the lose of troops.

  • Treaty of San Francisco

    This treaty was signed by the Allied powers of WWII and the Japanese. The treaty officially ended the war for America, even though it unofficially ended when the hydrogen bombs were dropped in Japan.
  • Dwight Eisenhower elected President

    Eisenhower is best known for helping to keep peace after the wars, ending the Korean War, serving in WWII before his presidency and trying to issolate communism and stop its spread. He was however not liked at the time for ignoring the racial issues of the time, which is around the time that the civil rights movement began.
  • Korean War Ends

    Armistice was signed. This marked the end of any actual warfare taking place with America for many years because the Cold War is known for the one casualty of that war.
  • Polio Vaccine

    Polio was a serious disease in the early 1900's and with this a mere 50 years later, the amount of people that are diagnosed with this was reduced by hundreds of thousands.
  • Warsaw Pact Signed

    The signing of the Warsaw Pact was the Soviets way of battling the creation of NATO and building a large enough power to be able to combat it if needed. This frightened America and the Allies becasue they were trying to cease the growth of Communism when this pact insured the spread.
  • Rosa Parks Arrested

    Rosa Parks refusal to move for a white man marked the baginnings of a boycott of the bus system in Montgomery, Alabama. This boycott enlisted the help of many civil rights leaders and the majority of the town.
  • Soviet Satellite Sputnik Launched

    The launch of sputnik spawned an idea in the head of most Americans that Russia could now see everything that they did and frightened them for years. Eventually, it spurred the American government to create a better space program, NASA.
  • NASA Founded

    The launching of Soviet satelitte Sputnik, America created a better space program than the previous one. It helped to eventually surpass the Soviets space program and help to eventually end the cold war.
  • Alaska and Hawaii gain State Status

    This did not have any major effects for America, it simply extended the control and area of the American government. These two states didn't extend the borders.
