English Colonists
English colonists arrived to start a new life. They wanted to be free form dept. The first permanant English settlement was Jamestown, Virginia -
revolutionary war
The British were taxing the colonists, and giving them no say to where their money went. so they boycotted and didn't buy british goods. Which resulted in the Brithish sending over their soldiers, and the revolutionary wasr began. -

On July 4th 1776 Thomas Jefferson summarized the colonists views in the Declaration of Independance. -
The Constitution
The 13 states cam togethor and wrote the constitution. which set up the framework for our goverment. It is still the highest law of the United states. -

In 1804 Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to explore the land west of the Mississippi river. They eventualy traveled to the coast and back about 8000 miles. -
