    Alice Russell, a family friend of the Bordens, observed Lizzie burning a blue dress in the kitchen stove. Lizzie claimed that the dress was stained and of no use. It was this testimony at the inquest that prompted Judge Blaisdell of the Second District Court to charge Lizzie with the murders.
