Government Review Time Line

  • Declaration of Independance signed

    The Declaration of Independence is a statement that was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. This is what holds the beliefs that all men are created equal. Abraham Lincoln is known to be the father of the Declaration of Independence.
  • Articles of Confederation ratified

    The Articles of Confederation was the first Constitution of the U.S and legally established the union of the states.
  • Constitution was ratified

    The Founding Fathers did not know if the Constitution would be generally accepted. Critics objected. They thought that it needed a Bill of Rights. The New Government finally added a Bill of Rights.
  • Marbury v. Madison

    A Federalist by the name is William Marbury was designated as a justice of the peace in District Columbia. Marbury and sveral others were appointed to government posts created by Congress in the last days of of John Adams presidency. The last minute appointments were never finalized. They sued for their jobs in Supreme Court.
  • McCulloch v. Maryland

    The state of Maryland attempted to impede operation of a branch of the Second Bank of the United States by imposing a tax on all notes of banks not chartered in Maryland.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor, which is a harbor on the island of O'ahu, Hawaii, was attacked by the Empire of Japan. This is ultimatly what brought us into World War II. The overall death toll reached 2,350.
  • Mapp v. Ohio

    Police searced this womans house looking for a fugitive. Her last name was Mapp. while they were looking they found illegal pornography. They ended up arresting her and charging her for having illegal pornography. She ended up going to court and winning the case.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution passed

    This is saying that the United States Congress approves and supports the decision of the President. As the Commander and Chief to take all necessary actions to protect the people and repel any further attack against the United States.
  • Lemon v. Kurtzman

    The Superintendent of Public Instruction to reimburse nonpublic schools for teachers salaries who taught secular materials in these non public schools. This is basically saying that prayer and religion cannot be brought into public schools.
  • New Jersey v. TLO

    A 14 year old girl was accused of smoking in the bathrooms at school. A teacher saw her and took her to the principles office. He then searched her backpack without probable cause. After he found cigarettes he continued to search through her backpack. He found drugs and paraphnelia. She got charged with having that. She took him to court saying the search violated her fourth amendment.
  • Iraq War Resolution passed

    This resolution supported the and encouraged diplomatic efforts by President W.Bush to enforce through the U.N Security Counsil and obtain prompt and decisive action by the Security Counsil to ensure that Iraq abandons its strategy . Bascially defending the National Security of the United States.
