  • The SNCC

    Many African american collage students join and also made a majority of the members. The SNCC helped African Americans stay safe when registering to vote and helped with other things too.
  • Sit-in movement

    At a Woolworth's department store four men were refused service. So, they sat there all day till the store closed. This was the sit-in movement. People used it in stores, restaurants, and other public places. The sit-in movement was used across the states.
  • The Freedom Riders

    Many African american and white people boarded southbound buses to protest. They did not have a warm welcome instead people though rocks and at one point someone though a firebomb in a bus. throughout this The Freedom Riders carried on.
  • The Children's March

    Young people walked form there churches to downtown businesses. Many were attacked by police and were also arrested. This was a powerful protest.
  • The march on Washington

    Over 250,000 demonstrators both black and white gathered on this important day. Dr. king then gave one of the powerful speeches. ( "I have a dream speech" )
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    President Johnson singed this act in to law. This acted did really helped the civil rights movement. This acted contained things like equal access to public facilities, forced schools to desegregate and end discrimination in the work place.
  • Voting Rights

    Voting rights were passed by a huge margin. It then passed though the senate. This was very good because now the U.S. attorney generals could send federal examiners. At the end of the remaining year over 250,000 African Americans registered as new voters. This had to make Dr. King happy because how much he pushed for this.
