    Rosa Parks is arrested
    Rosa parks was an African-American Civil Rights Activist. She was arrested on december 1st 1955 after refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. Her arrest sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    The Montgomery Buss Boycott started when Rosa Parks; A Civil Rights activist, was arrested for refusing to give up her seat for a white passenger. It was a political and social protest in which people of Montgomery Alabama were protesting agaisnt racial segregation on the public transit system. This protest lasted 13 months. It took place from december 1st to december 20th 1956

  • National Guard blockade

    National Guard blockade
    On december 4th 1957 the governner of Arkansas, governer Orval Faubus, depolyed the Arkansas National Guard to support segregationists. African-American students that were enrolled in Little Rock Central High were denied entrance to the racially segregated school.
  • Sit in at woolworth's lunch counter

    Sit in at woolworth's lunch counter
    On this day four college students sat down at the lunch counter. The staff from the lunch counter refused to give them service because of their race and they were asked to leave. The four students refused to leave and stayed seated until the store closed. The following day more than 20 African-Americans did the same. Each day the number of students that were sitting in increased dramatically. This continued untill whites and blacks were served alike.

    Freedom Riders bus burned
    The freedom riders were a civil rights activist group that rode interstate buses into the segregated southern United States. Violence broke out against these activists in order to try and stop them. The freedom riders were attacked by KKK members. They lit the bus on fire and beat the activists on their way out.

  • Martin Luther King Jr writes a letter.

    Martin Luther King Jr writes a letter.
    Martin Luther King Jr. wrote a letter from Birmingham jail known as "The negro is your brother." His letter was wriiten in response to a statement known as "A call for unity." In this letter MLK Jr basically said that he believed that all communities and states were rinterrelated.
  • March in Washington

    March in Washington
    A march was organized in Washington for jobs and freedom. It was one of the largest political human rights rallies in U.S history. At this ralley Martin Luther King Jr. gave his infamous "I have a dream" speech that was promoting harmony between races during the march.
  • President JFK is assasinated

    President JFK is assasinated
    President John F. Kennedy was assasinated November 22nd 1963. His death remains one of Americas greatest mysteries and contraversies because the reason behind his death has yet to be solved. That same day after president JFK died; Vice president Lyndon B Jhonson was inagurated president aboard Air Force One.
  • The 24th Amendment is passed

    This amendment stated that people could not be charged for voting.
  • The civil rights act is passed

    The civil rights act is passed
    It outlawed major forms of discrimination against racial, ethnic, national and religious minorities and women.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. is Arrested.

    Martin Luther King Jr. is  Arrested.
    Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominenet leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He was arreseted for demonstrating with out a permit.
  • Malcom X dies.

    Malcom X dies.
    Malcom X was an African-American Muslim minister, and a civil rights activist. He was assasinated Febuary 21st 1965
  • Voting Rights Act

    Voting Rights Act
    This act outlawed discriminatory voting practices.
  • Watts Riots

    Watts Riots
    The watts riots started on August 11th and ended August 17th in 1965. These riots lasted 6 days and left 34 people dead and 1,032 people were injured. The riots were caused because an African-American man named Marquette Frye was arrested for the suspition of being intoxicated while driving but police officers used force which upset the community as they were watching.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on gapril 4th 1968. He was shot in a motel in Memphis Tennessee by James Earl Ray.
  • Forced busing begings

    Forced busing begings
    Forced busing was when students would be transported to other schools in order to have a balance in the amounts of a certain nationality of kids at a school. It was an effort to intergrate students. Many white students were opposed to sharing their school with colored people.
