A nuclear bomb was dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombs from the U.S. were dropped first on 08/06/45 on Hiroshima, then on 08/09/45 on Nagasaki. These bombs killed about 200,000 people and military personnel. They led to Japan's surrender.
