    This was the beginning of the allied liberation from Nazi control, it started along the beaches of the Normandy region. This battle lasted two months, 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on multiple beaches along the coast.

    Battle of Okinawa

    This was one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, 180,000 U.S Army and Marine Corps landed in Okinawa as the final push to defeat the Japanese, it was part of the Operation Iceberg. It ended in an Allied victory.
  • Death of President Roosevelt

    President Roosevelt was in his fourth term as president when he passed away. He had been suffering from post-polio syndrome and he was under a lot of stress because of the war. He suffered from a stroke while he was on a break in Warm Springs, Georgia.
  • Germany Surrenders

    General Alfred Jodl signed an unconditional surrender of all Germany forces at Reims.

    Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    An American B-29 bomber deployed a bomb onto a Japanese city, Hiroshima. This first bomb killed 80,000 people. Three days later the Americans dropped another A-bomb onto Nagasaki, this one killed 40,000 people. Seven days later Japan surrender.

    It was plan that the United States implemented to help the economies of 17 European countries so that there would be suitable conditions for democratic governments to work in.

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was made a by the United States and Canada, and other European countries so that there would be guaranteed safety against the Soviet Union.

    The Korean War

    The war began when North Korea's army crossed the 38th parallel, which was what separated the Soviet backed North Korea, and the democratic leaning South Korea. In July of 1950 American troops had entered South Korea to help them.
