  • Battle of Midway

    This was a naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II. It took place between 4 and 7 June 1942. This was only six months after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea.

    This was Roosevelts fourth inauguration.
  • Roosevelts death

    President Roosevelt dies from a stroke and is succeeded by Vice President Harry Truman.
  • The Atomic Bomb

    The first atomic bomb is detonated Alamogordo, N.M.
  • Hiroshima

    The U.S. drops an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. This Bomb was the first of two bombings. This terrible act killed at least 70,000 people in the initial blast.
  • Nagasaki

    The U.S. bombs Nagasaki. This was the second of the two bombs used against the Japanese. It killed many innocent lives in hopes for victory.
  • Harry Truman

    This was Truman's second inauguration.
  • NATO

    NATO, or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was established.
  • Armistice

    The Armistice agreement was signed. This is a formal agreement of warring parties to stop fighting. This agreement ended the war in Korea.
