FDR began his first 100 days in office with quick action to solve the nation's crippling financial panic via the Emergency Banking Act and Fireside Chat programs. FDR penned his New Deal with 15 legislative pieces within these 100 days as well. It has become a staple for US presidents to "prove" themselves within this first 100 day period.

Congress passed the Gold Reserve Act which nationalized all gold by ordering the Federal Reserve banks to turn over their supply to the U.S. Treasury. Banks received gold certificates to be used as reserves against deposits and Federal Reserve notes instead.

Roosevelt wanted to put restrictions on the court when it came to age. Largely seen as a political ploy to change the court for favorable rulings on New Deal legislation. Roosevelt’s attempt to appoint up to six additional justices to the Supreme Court for every justice older than 70 years, 6 months, who had served 10 years or more. It met large opposition not only in the Supreme Court but in the public's eyes as well.

Japanese plans bombed pearl harbor killing 2,300 Americans and sinking the USS Arizona and USS Oklahoma, as well as damaging or sinking 21 other ships. This attack prompted America's entry into World War II. America's entry had been long deliberated however this infamous day was the turning point.
