    Massacre at Woundedknee (South Dakota)
    The ghost dance movement had riled up the Indians and put fear to the whites. The order was to arrest present Chief Sitting Bull but he was killed in the attempt. This left Big Foot next in line as Chief. Big Foot tried to lead his people to safety at Pine Ridge Reservation. A massacre occurred December 29, 1890 resulting in 300 Sioux dead including Chief Big Foot. This massacre ended the Indian Wars as well as the ghost dance movement.

    James G. Blaine was an American Republican politician. He was a secretary of the state, and also ran for pesidency but was defeated by Cleveland Grover in 1884. Blaine resigns from cabinent June 4, 1892 due to his healthy and family problems.

    Samuel Laycock Dies
    Samuel Laycock was a Lancashire dialect poet first in rank lf the mid 19th century. Laycock was among many cotton workers who got laid off. For extra cash Laycock used his skill in poetry. His best work and love peoms are "Bonny Bird" and "Bowntons's Yard." He died in December 15, 1893 from influenza which developed into acute bronchitis at the age of 48 years old.

    USS Maine was a secondclass battle ship carrying supplies and gunpowder to the Americans in Cuba. Maine sank when her forward gunpowder magazines exploded. Nearly three-quarters of the battleship's crew died as a result of the explosion. No evidence was able to point out who was responsible for the sinking of the ship.

    Oscar Wilde Dies
    Although married and the father of two children, Wilde's personal life was open to gossip. His years of sucess stopped dramatically, when his intimate association with Alfred Douglas led to his trial on charges of homosexuality (illegal in Britain). He was sentenced two years hard labor for sodomy. After his release in 1897 Wilde lived under the name Sebastian Melmoth in Berneval. He died of cerebral meningitis on November 30, 1900.

    General Aguinaldo was captured in his secret headquarters at Palanan in northern Luzon on March 23, 1901. Aguinaldo took an oath of allegiance to the U.S, was also granted a pension from the U.S. government, and was able to retired to a private life.

    The Great January Comet of 1910 also known as Halley's Comet. In January 12,1910 this comet was visible to the naked eye, and was possibly the brightest comet of the 2oth century. It outshoned the planus Venus.
