    Joseph Henry invented the first telegraph that actually worked. His work with electromagnetism is what finally made it all click. The actual work with the telegraph began in 1775.
  • AT&T is Founded

    The American Telephone and Telegraph Company was founded. It was the parent company for the Bell System. They built telephone lines for long distance.
  • Carbon Microphone

    Emile Berliner invented the carbon microphone. He worked with Thomas Edison. He sold his patent to the Bell Telephone Company for $50,000.
