In north Amercia, the war got going seriously in 1758. in that year, the British captured Louisberg and destroyed the fortress. The St. Lawrence River now lay open to British invasion.

    As the fleet sailed in single file up the St. Lawrence in June it stretched a distance of more than 150 kilometers. The fleet anchored near Ile D Orleans, Just down river from Quebec. Now General Wolfe had to dicide where to attack. The cliffs at the edge of the river are every steep, and Quebec sat at the top. It would be a very dificult place to attack. Wolfe considered the possibilities.

    When the lines were about 40 metres apart, Wolfe orderd his front line to fire. The British troops were fresh and close together Their shots were deadly. The front lines knelt to reload, and Wolfe Orderd the second line to fire. the second line knelt to reload, and the third line fired. then the first line stood up and fired again every 20 seconds, one of the British lines fired. The french were cut to pieces Wolfe and Mountcalm were both killed in the battle of the plains of Abraham.
