    Great Awakening

    The great spiritual awakening was guided under preachers such as Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield. The awakening occurred over a wide course of dates but was mostly between the 30s and 40s.

    Britsh vs. French and Indians over land disputes. The treaties of Paris and Huubertusburg ended the war with the British victory.
  • Royal Proclamation of 1763

    British royalty created the boundary line at the Appalachian Mountains to claim land as their territory.

    Began war between British and Indians after Indians attacked Britain forts. Peace was settled in the end.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston crowd taunted British military. Results ended with the British soldiers killing five of the Boston people
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonists rebellion against Britain's Tea Act. Disguised as Indians, the colonists boarded the British ships and threw tea into the sea.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    "Shot heard around the world".Famous battles that began the War for Independence. British set out to take colonists' military supplies and resulted in a battle. Another sign that tensions between colonists and the British were continuing to rise.

    Colonists fought for independence from England.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The colonists declared independence from England.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Ended the War of Independence after the surrender of General Cornwallis in Yorktown.

    Held in Philadelphia, the Constitutional Convention met originally to renew Articles of Confederation but ended up drafting the Constitution.

    George Washington is sworn into office as America's 1st President.
  • Invention of the Cotton Gin

    Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin which helped further the expansion of the Cotton Revolution.

    John Adams swore into office as the 2nd President of the United States.
