  • French and Indian War

    Lasting from 1754 to 1763, the French and Indian War was the British and French trying to take control of eastern North America.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre happened when a riot started on King Street in Boston between the British soldiers and the colonists. A British soldier shot into a rowdy crowd and killed a few people. The colonists heavily publicized this event to try to get the colonists to turn on the British soldiers.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was a protest by the American colonists for Britain imposing "taxation without representation" at Griffin's Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts. They dumped 342 chests of tea that had been imported by the British East India Company into the harbor.
  • American Revolution

    The thirteen colonies fought for their independence from Great Britain from 1775 to 1783. The Treaty of Paris ends the war.
  • Official Flag of United States

    Continental Congress approved of the first official flag of the United States.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Continental Congress adopts the Articles of Confederation. This is the first U.S. Constitution.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was signed by Representatives from the United States and Britain. It's purpose was to end the American Revolution by recognizing the U.S. as independent and granting them significant western territory.

    Farmers from New Hampshire to South Carolina protest high state taxes and stiff penalties for failure to pay.
  • First President of U.S.

    George Washington is unanimously elected the first president of the United States.
  • Supreme Court's First Meeting

    The Supreme Court met for the first time at the Merchants Exchange Building in New York City.
  • Bill of Rights

    The first ten amendments to the Constitution are ratified. These are known as the Bill of Rights.
  • Cotton Gin Invented

    Eli Whitney invents the cotton gin which increases cotton production. This also increases the demand for slaves.
