    Raleigh hired Simon Fernandez to transport 100 more people, not just men, but women and children. John White was in charge, and he brought his family along. When they arrived in 1587, John found out the men were killed.

    In 1607, a group with over 100 men landed on the banks of Virginia's James River, but the water was unhealthy to drink. After, they were attacked by a Native American's group. Their leader, Captain Smith, commanded them to build a fort for protection.
