What is a convention?
A convention is a large, political, formal assembly where delegates and running candidates from each party meet to discuss common interests. The head of the Democratic convention is Nancy Pelosi. The head of the Republican convention is George Bush. At a convention, candidates give their acceptance speeches. -

Barack Obama was nominated to represent the Democrats. Convention took place in Denver, Colorado at the Pepsi Center. Convention continues from August 25th-28th. -
Republican Convention
John McCain was nominated to represent the Republicans. Convention took place in St. Paul, Minnesota. Convention continues from September 1st-4th. -

56th quadrennial Presidential Election. Democrat Barack Obama defeated Republican John McCain with a total of 365 electoral votes. Nine states changed allegiance from the 2004 election. The election was the first in which an African American was elected President. Voter turnout for the 2008 election was the highest in at least 40 years and Obama received the most votes for a presidential candidate in American history.
