    The Germans invaded Poland from the West on September 1, 1939. That scared the Soviet Union. So they invaded Poland from the east on September 17, 1939. They divided up all of Poland between them. The fighting in Poland stopped on October 6, 1939. This invasion started the second world war because America and Britain were allies of Poland.

    The Doolittle Raid happened on Aprl 18, 1942. It was a surprise attack on Tokyo, Japan by US bombers. The aircraft bomber pilots were trained by American Airforce Colonel James Doolttle. The 15 bombers also attacked Kobe, Osaka, and Yokosuka. Three of the fighter pilots were killed. Eight of the pilots were captured and tortured. (www.britannica.com)

It was part of Operation Overlord and codenamed Operation Neptune but is mostly referred to as D-Day. Normandy France was considered the western front of World War II. It began the liberation of France. The Allies had forces from United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Australia, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Norway, and New Zealand. They fought against Germany.
