    When did she die dough?
"Mother died today, or, maybe yesterday; I can't be sure." This quote by Meursault shows how little attention he pays to his mother after she moves away from him. Overall, this moment illustrates that Meursault feels nothing towards just about anything, because if he has no feelings for his own mother, then it's safe to assume that he doesn't feel much towards just about anything.
  • She ded

    She ded
Meursault learns about Maman's death and is extremely emotionless. He says that he never went to visit her because "it took up [his] Sunday". Meusault does not care for his mother as a regular person does; he feels no obligation to love or even visit her, and feels practically no sadness about her death.
  • I'm SHLEEEP CUH

    I'm SHLEEEP CUH
Meursalt attends his mothers vigil, deciding to not open the casket to see his mothers body. This could be interpreted as Meursalt devastated by her death and doesn't want to see her in such a way. However, he ensues that with a long drawn out nap until the next day. This action truly extends how Mersault lacks any emotions, as he doesn't even care enough to stay awake and at least remember her life. Instead, he pushes her aside,as if she didn't matter in his life, and continues onward with life
  • Maman's boiiiiiii Perez

    Maman's boiiiiiii Perez
The first time Meursault learns about his mother's "fiancée" is at the funeral. Meursault knows almost nothing about Maman-- he didn't even know that she had a supposed lover, who, by the way, is more distraught over Maman's death than Meursault. Even when he is told that Perez will be allowed to attend the vigil, which usually is forbidden, Meursault does not seem to care. To him, Maman's funeral is nothing more than a chore-- something he has to attend but does so with no emotions whatsoever.
  • The Feels... Repressed :(

    The Feels... Repressed :(
At the beginning of the novel, Meursault says that "[he] was quite fond of Maman," he expressed a true feeling of emotion towards his mother. However, as seen throughout the rest of the book, he then goes on to repress his emotions. In this case, he finished by saying "but that didn't mean anything." We learn that Meursault may actually have feelings for his mother, even if he tries to lock them up or bottle them inside.

  • The Mom who died, comes to LIVE?

The Mom who died, comes to LIVE?
As he is about to be executed, Meursault realizes that he wants to live and that Maman probably also wanted to live right before he dies. As he has the epiphany, he empathizes with someone for the first time in the book. This is a huge shift from Meursault's ideology from the rest of the book. After this, he considers that death is important and gives meaning to life, whereas before he beleived life was unimportant.
