Germany invades Poland
Hitler ued his plans to be able to conquer Poland. German tanks and troops thunder across the Polish border. German aircraft and cannons began a heartless bombing of Poland’s capital, Warsaw.

Declares war
Honoring their guarantee of Poland’s borders. France and great Britain declared war on Germany.

France surrenders
French leaders surrendered and was when Germans took control of the northern part of the country. The government headed by Marshal Philippe Pé´ain, who was french hero from World War I.
The imporatance of this event is that french could no longer defeat Germany so they surrender and they were taken power of everything. -
Surprise attack on Pearl Harbor
Americans had cracked one of the codes that Japanese used in sending secret messages. To avoid the RAF’s attackers, the Germans gave up daylight raids in favor of night bombing.
The importance of this event is that it was the beginning of attacking Pearl Harbor. -
Join Axis Powers
Through the threat of force, Hitler had persuaded Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary to join the Axis powers. Yugoslavia and Greece, which had pro-British governments, resisted.
The importance of this date is that Hitler made this countries joined him so that they can help him conquer. -
Germans invade Soviet Union
The German's tanks and aircraft announced the beginning of the invasion. The Soviet Union had the the largest army in the world, but wasn’t prepared for this attack. Its troops were not well equipped nor well trained.

Oil Shipments
The US president could lend weapons and ther supplies to countries that were important to the US. And when the Japanese overran French Indochina-Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, Roosevelt cut off oil shipments to Japan.

Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
American sailors at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii awoke to the roar of explosives. A Japanese attack was underway! U.S. leaders had known from a coded Japanese message than an attack might come.

Final Solution Begins
Nazis built extermination camps that had huge gas chambers that could kill 6,000 humans in a day. Jews arrived to Auschwitz at camps women, men, elderly, children and the sick were separated. Were taken into gas chambers, but thought that they were taken to take a shower.
Importance of this event is that Hitler wanted to get rid of all Jews and tortured them. It ws a huge impact.

The Doolittle Raid
Tokyo, Japan is bombed by B-25 Mitchells commanded by then-Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle.
The importance of this date is that it was America's first attack to the Japanese during the war. With Japan running through the Pacific much like the Germans did to Europe in the beginnings of WWII, this was the first opportunity for the US. -
The Battle of Midway
June 4, 1942, with American forces hidden beyond the horizon, Nimitz allowed the Japanese to begin their assault on the islands. The strategy was very good and 332 Japanese planes were destroyed, all four aircraft carriers, and one support ship. Yamamoto ordered his crippled fleet to take back. June 7, 1942 the battle was over.

Guadalcanal
August 7, 1942-February 1943. Thousands U.S. Marines, with Australian support, landed on Guadalcanal and the near the island of Tulagi. The marines has little trouble taking hold of Guadalcanal’s airfield.
The importance of this date is that Japan had a large fort in the Pacific, and were increasing their strength. -
The D-Day Invasion
The D-Day invasion began, at dawn of that day. British, American, French, and Canadian troops British and US troops fortunately land on the Normandy beaches of France.

The Battle of the Bulge
German tanks broke through weak American defenses along a 75-mile front in the Ardennes. The Germans launch a final offensive in the west, to re-conquer Belgium and split the Allied forces along the German border.

Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference between the U.S., Britain, and the USSR begins. Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin discuss their plans for Europe after the war, and Stalin agrees to declare war on Japan. In the Pacific, the Allies finally retake Manila in the Philippines after three years of brutal Japanese occupation.
The importance of this date is that it was a conference were they discissed that Germany would pay war reparations, and the Soviet Union would enter the war against Japan. -
U.S. troops invade Okinawa
The U.S. troops invaded Okinawa, the first Japanese home island to be reached. The aggressive Japanese defenders would impose on about 35,000 American missing. In Europe, the Allies surround over 300,000 German troops in the Ruhr, and the final Allied offensive in northern Italy begins.
The importance of this date is that it was the American's plan for winning the war in the Far East. -

Germany surrenders to the Western Allies. General Eisenhower accepted to surrender of the Third Reich from the German military. President Roosevelt did not live to witness the long-awaited victory.

The United States drops an atomic bomb carrying highly enriched uranium from Oak Ridge, Tennessee on Hiroshima.
