    Canada declares war on Germany
    Two days after invasion of Poland, France and Britian proclaimed war onto Germany. Both the British and French had promised to defend the Polish according to their "Common Defense Pact". Canada, who was in an alliance with those countries engaged itself in the war seven days later. This was a very important date because it was the onset of the second great world war.

  • Conscription Act Enforced

    Conscription Act Enforced
    On this day, all Canadain able-bodie men were forced into conscription on home defense. In 1939, after the end of WWI, Prime Minister Mackenzie King vowed to not conscript anymore more men for the army, though the need for more soldiers in the second world war was inexplicable.

    Japanese Immigrants are sent to Hastings Park
    After the Pearl Harbour attack on Septemeber 7, 1941, all Japanese immigrants posed as a threat towards Canada and America. Japanese Canadians were immediately evacuated out of their homes and taken to internment camps.

    Dieppe Raid
    The Canadian military intended to drive German forces out of the Soviet Union with a huge invasion on the coast of France. As they proceeded into battle, the Candians were faced with German convoys, who alerted their German troops and tore the Canadian men apart. That day Canada was left with 1000 casualties and 1,800 who were taken into hostage..

  • D-Day

    D-Day
    Allied powers decieved the Germans by not attacking on their intended date. Britain, Canada, and American forces fought on the beaches of Normandy France, and left victorious. They succesfully liberated Normandy and continued to free other western nations from German control.

  • Germany surrenders

    Germany surrenders
    After hearing that Hitler committed suicide, Germany had no choice but to surrender. This was good on the Allie's part because in spite of Japan's refusal to give in, they could still be the champions of this war. Japan had lost a powerful ally and nation. It would be much easier to defeat them now.

    Japan surrenders; World War 2 has ended
    Japan finally surrenders knowing they have no use in this war anymore. They have realized that they have been outnumbered by the number of countries working with Allies. This marked the end of WWII.

    Canadians showed a lot of bravery and independent success in WWII. As a result, a law was enforced that Canadian citizens no longer had to be recognized as a British subject.
