WWII Timeline

  • 2nd Sino Japanese War

    Since 1931, Japan and China had conflict.It escalated quickly into war in 1937, when a Japanese soldier went missing during a night time military manuever by the Jaoanese.
  • Rape of Nanking

    Japanese blamed the dissapearance f once of their soldiers on China and quickly invaded two of their cities, Nanjing and Shanghai. More than 80,000 Women were raped and almost 4 times as many men, women and children were killed.
  • Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact

    Nazi Germany and Soviet Union had agreed upon not attacking each other or their allies.
  • Attack of Poland by Germany

    Not even 2 weeks after signing a pact with Russia, Germany invaded Poland, breaking the contract they had signed. Russia was forced to go to war with Germany in order to protect Poland. World War 2 starts.
  • German Blitzkrieg

    The german Blitzkrieg was a section of the German army designed to basically tear cities apart and weaken their defenses with bombing runs of planes HEAVILY loaded with more than 1,000 tons of TNT each. Once this was done, hundreds of tanks would raid the city and take it over. they successfully took over Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Yugoslavia, and Greece.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    German forces invaded Soviet Russia. 3m plus Axis troops and over one thousand tanks invaded the country. They wanted to expand their land to create more room for the Aryan Race. They eventually lost the battle because they ended up fighting on 2 fronts.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Japanese Forces bombed and destroyed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii to stop America's naval ships from fighting back against them. It was also a good place to invade since they were so close to the US, and Hawaii had many natural resources.
  • Wansee Conference

    The Germans met up to discuss the extermination of the Jewish living in Germany.
  • Bataan Death March

    After the Philippines surrendered to the Japanese in the Bataan Peninsula, they took over 75,000 Philippino and Allied soldiers and made them walk 65 Miles without water or food.
  • Operation Gomorrah

    The Allies bombed Germany's symbolic cities in attempt to force the Germans to ask for a peace treaty. Over 2,400 tons of TNT were dropped every hour. Their last target was Hamburg.
  • D-Day

    160,00 allied troops landed by boat, jets etc on a 50 mile stretch of beach on the French coast of Normany. This battle completely turned the tides against Hitler and his allies.
  • Battle of the Buldge

    An attack by Hitler to try and regain the lead in the war. His plan was to split up the Allies to make them easier to attack and ultimately take over the port of Antwerp and cut off the Allies supplies.
  • Operation Thunderclap

    A very Controversial attack on German Territory by the US. Many people are confused about what really happened . Dreadson was a seemingly quiet peaceful part of Germany that had alot of factories. People disregarded he factories but what they didn't realise was that the Factories weremt making what was "advertised" per second and instead was making jet parts and weaponry for the German soldiers.
  • Iwo Jima

    US invasion of a Japanese Island protected by over 23,000 enemy troops who fought in underground tunnels. the US wanted this island to use as a base for Damaged air crafts.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    A battle between the Japanese and the Allies. The Allies wanted to take over the Island to win the war in the Far East. The US wanted destroy what was left of Japan's military and bomb Japan's weapons manufacturing factories to stop them from making more weapons.
  • VE Day

    Europe celebrates their Victory in the war.
  • Atomic Bombs

    Little boy was the first ever nuclear bomb dropped in war history. It wiped out the city of Hiroshima and ultimately led to Fat Man, the dropping of the Second and more powerful bomb dropped in Nagasaki. Together they killed over 170,000 Japanese Civilians. Japan became scared and in several days surrendered. This is still considered a controversial act made by the US.
  • VJ Day

    Japan's Unofficial surrender to the Allies. It can also be referred to the official surrender of Japan on September 2nd 1945.
