  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    July -Sept.1940 THe Luftwaffe(German Airforce) started attacking airfields and radar bases to try to gain airforce superiority againsst the British. Once that fails they begin attacking London and other major cities. The British fought back and destroyed th e German Airforce. THis was a huge turning point in the war.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    4.5 million German troops were launched in a surprise attack on Russia eventhough Hitler had signed a non-aggression pact with them in 1939. Hitler attacked because he wanted to eliminate the Communist threat and seize prime land in Soviet borders. The Russian winter came and Germany lost many men. THen on December 6, 1941 the Soviets launched a counterattack wwhich pushed the Germans out of Moscow.The Germans lost at a great cost to their army which would be a turning point in the war.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbour

    Attack on Pearl Harbour
    At 7:55 am onSunday the japanese naval pilots bombed the U.S. port of earl Harbour. Two waves of Japanese planes attaked Oahu, HAwaii from the East and West. THe Japanese wanted to take out the majority of the U.S. Navy, because the U.S. had stopped any natural resources from being traded with Japan. The U.S. also froze Japanese assets. After this attack the U.S. declared war on Japan and entered WWII.
  • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    Japan forced 72,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war to march 63 miles from the end of the Bataan Peninsula in the Philipines. They needed to move them from the southern end of the Bataan Peninsula to Camp O'Donnel in the north. During this march 7,000-10,000 P.O.Ws died.General MacArthur had left for Australia two months before the surrender and he promised the Filipinos ,"I shall return."

    Operation Overlord aka D-day
    The Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy in a surprise attack to try to puch the Germans out of France and free France. This operation was headed by Dwight Eisenhower.This attack was the beginning of the end of Hitler's reign.
  • Battle of theBulge

    Battle of theBulge
    (December 16th 1944- January 28 1945) The Germans attack the Allies in Belgium to push them out of Europe. The Allies were getting closer to Germany so the Nazis tried to push them back way from Germany. The U.S army suffered 100,000 casualties. This was the last battle before Hitlersurrenders.

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The Americans bombed Iwo Jima becasue the Japanes were using it tostore Japanese fighter planes while Americans could use it to land damagedplanes. After this battle America took control of Iwo Jima with many people dead. This battle made the Americans decide to drop the Atomic bombs because they realized that sincethey lost somany people fighting for a tiny island then they would lose so many more fighting in Japan.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    (Febuary 4-11 1945) Franklin D. Roosevlt, Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin had a meeting in a Russian resort town. They discussed in what conditions the Soviet Union would join the war with Japan, They decided that the Soviets would have influence in Manchuria after Japan surrenders.They formed the United Nations and they agreed on how to split Berlin.

    V-E Day
    German General Jodi signed a surrender document that ended WWII in Europe. The NAzi party gave up becasue Hitler commited suicide and they knew they would never win. BEcasue of this WWII ended in Europe.
  • Dropping of the Atomic Bomb

    Dropping of the Atomic Bomb
    On August 6th 1945 at 8:15 an American bomber plane dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima which instantly killed 80,000 poeple. 3 days later after the Japanes refused to surrender they dropped another atomic bombon Nagasaki killing 40,000 people. This started the end of the war with Japan.
  • V-J Day

    V-J Day
    Japan surrenders becasue the U.S dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima andNagasaki. On September 2nd 1945 Japan signes a formal surrender document which ends WWIIin the Pacific.
