    when Germany invaded poland, there was heavy bombing and shelling (an explosive used in wars). When poland couldn't take anymore, they surrenderd to Germany. Then, Britain and France declared war on Germany. They {Germany} invaded Poland because Hitler thought it would bring "living space" for the German people. The Polish people were forced to live under the soviet union for 50 years.

    When Germnay invaded France, the French people thought that they would attack through Central Belgium as they did in WWI, but they didn't. All the French troops went to the belgian border, but the Germans got the best of them, they went through Ardenns instead. They invaded France because it was part of the German plan.

    When Germany bombed London, 348 bombers led by 617 fighters BLASTED London until 6:00 (they started at 4:00). Then another attack, [two hours later], lasted until 4:30 in the morning. This happened because the Germans were attacking populated areas. This event killed 6,000 people, and twice as many were badly injured.

    When Japan bombed the Pearl Harbor, Japanese planes attacked the US Naval Base (Hawaiii territory). The attack killed more that 2,300 Americans. It comepletely DESTROYED the American battleship U.S.S Arizona. It sank or beached a total of 12 ships.

    The bombing of Pearl Harbor surprised even Germany. Even though hitler made an agreement with Japan (his axis partner) that Germany would join a war against the U.S. When Japan bombed the Pearl Harbor, that confirmed the start of the war. Germany declared war on the U.S in response to what was claimed to be a series of provocations by the U.S government when the US was oficially neutral during WWII.

    When the U.S defeated Japan in the Battle of Midway, one of the most decisive naval battles of WWII, the U.S was able to counter attack Japan's planned ambush. It was the turning point of the Pacific Campaign, it was a ploy by the Japanese to drag the American fleet into a trap.

    When American and other allied troops landed in Normandy, 156,000 Allied soldiers stormed a handful of beaches. They (The Allies), were wieghed down by their OWN equipment, and many drowned in the flooded marshlands at the rear of the beach, and others got shot out of the sky by enemy fire.

    When the Battle of The Bulge started, Hitler attempted to split the Allied armies in Northwest Europe by doing a surprise blitzkreieg [an intense military campaign intended to bring about a swift victory], through the Ardennes to Antwerp. The point of the whole thing was to split the Allied armies.

    When the Battle of Iwo Jima struck, U.S Marines stormed the [DEMOLISHED] beaches of Iwo Jima. The Japanese had a network of caves, tunnels, pillboxes and spider holes (they were set and ready), the U.S forces spent several bloody weeks getting across unforgiving terrain. And the captured the island of Iwo Jima.

    On August 6, 1945 the American bomber Enola Gay dropped a FIVE-TON BOMB over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The blast was equivalent to the power of 15,000 TONS OF TNT. This blas reduced four square miles of the city to RUINS and IMMIDIATELY KILLED 80,000 PEOPLE!!! Three days later, guess what happened... ANOTHER BOMB WAS DROPPED on the city of Nagasaki, KILLING nearly40,000 MORE PEOPLE!!! Then Japan announced it's surrender. Many say it ignited the Cold War.
