    A turning point in WW II, when German and British air forces ran into each other in the skies over the United Kingdom. Germany failed to gain superiority over the United Kingdom air force despite months of targeting Britain's weak points.     Later after the attacking of Pearl Harbor, the United States defeated Japan in the Battle of Midway. This was one of the most crucial naval battles of WW II. The United States was able to counter Japan's planned ambush and damage their navy instead. The victory allowed the U.S and its allies to move into an offensive position.

    Hitler launched an attack toward the Soviet Union with millions of German soldiers. The invasion took place from the North Cape to the Black Sea, over two-thousand miles. Hitler had a big fail during the Battle of Barbarossa. Hitler wanted to get rid of Bolshevism.

  • Japan bombed Pearl Harbor

    Japan bombed Pearl Harbor
    Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor. The bombing lasted two hours but was devastating to the U.S. The outcome was 20 American naval vessels destroyed including eight giant battleships and over 300 airplanes. Many soldiers lost their lives and that day FDR declared war on Japan which brought the U.S. into the war.

    Bataan death march
    After the surrender of the US army on the main Philippine island of Luzon, about 75,000 Filipino and American troops were forced to make a 65-mile march to prison camp. Hence the name "death march". The march took place in intense heat and harsh treatment by the Japanese guards. Many died due to these conditions.

The Nazi forces had forced the prisoners to march outward while they tried to destroy the evidence of death camps.     America needed a base near the Japanese coast, it's was the uprising of the intense Iwo Jima battle during WW II. This battle took place in harsh conditions. The american army and navy troops attacked about 23,000 Japanese soldiers. The American army wiped out the Japanese force earning a place in history represented by the U.S. flag being raised in victory.

    Japan surrenders
    The Japanese air force and navy were destroyed while their economy was bombed and devastated. The United States had two atomic bombs ready and if others didn't agree to the U.S.'s ways, they would be bombed and their cities be left is complete devastation.
