    Battle of the Atlantic
    Canada played a very major role in the Battle of the Atlantic. Since German U-boats were continuously bombarding merchant ships towards Great Britain through the Atlantic Ocean, the Canadian Navy did it's best to destroy German warships. Halifax, the Atlantic base of Canada's navy became an indispensable allied port from which the battle could be fought easily. The Canadian Navy grew in size exceedingly and by the end of the battle was recognized as a strong fighting force.

  • Battle of Dunkirk

    Battle of Dunkirk
    The Battle of Dunkirk lasted from May 26th to June 4th, 1940. It was fought against the Allied forces and Germany. The Canadians met great loss during this battle. The decision to evacuate the French premises was made in order to prevent further loss. The Canadians had to accept defeat.

  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    In order to take over Britain, Germany began to bombard the premises by air. Canada participated to a great extent in this war by providing fighter pilots as well as planes to overpower the German forces. Along with the help of the Canadians the British were able to secure their land of foreign invasion and got rid of Germany's attempts to conquer it.

  • The Batte of Hong Kong

    The Batte of Hong Kong
    In the Battle of Hong Kong, the Japanese were adamant to take over Hong Kong and bring it under their influence. Canadian battalions were sent over to the war field in order to defeat the Japanese forces and protect the crown colony. Unfortunately the Canadian soldiers met with profound losses and many were taken as prisoners of war. The Japanese eventually won the battle. Approximately 290 Canadian soldiers lost their lives and many were wounded.

  • Battle of Dieppe

    Battle of Dieppe
    The Battle of Dieppe was the largest battle in terms of Canadian casualties. The British carried out a surprise attack on the Germans on the Port of Dieppe in order to take back their French territory. Unfortunately, the Canadians met with great difficulty as it was very hard to move their supplies from the rocky coast which eventually led to their defeat. However, the experience at Dieppe provided the Allies with a chance to test techniques for landing the troops from the sea.

  • The Italian Campaign

    The Italian Campaign
    The Italian Campaign was the first large scale land operation in which the Canadian army stationed in Britain took part. The battle was fought by Italy, Canada and Britain against Germany. It began from Sicily proceeding up the boot into main Italy. The Germans made the Allied advance very difficult using Italy's topography to their advantage. There were many Canadian casualties. Despite the deaths, the Canadians succeeded in defeating the Germans and Italy was liberated.

    D-Day
    The Canadians played a very vital role in this battle. About 14000 young Canadian soldiers stormed Juno Beach on D-Day. This was fought between the U.S, Britain and Canada against the German forces at Normandy (France). The Germans put up a very tough battle which resulted in immense Canadian casualties. Despite this, the Canadians persevered and continued to fight. Their adamance to succeed and their courage were two major aspects that led to their victory.

  • Liberation of the Netherlands

    Liberation of the Netherlands
    The Allied forces closed in on German forces from all sides in order to free the oppressed Dutch in Netherlands. Netherlands was basically under Nazi rule and the Dutch were profoundly tormented. The Canadian army fought with immense courage and bravery. They were able to succeed and Netherlands was liberated. To this day the Dutch send the Canadians tulips as a token of appreciation.
