    Battle of The Atlantic
    Longest ongoing battle in WWII. It lasted until May 8, 1945. The Germans used U-Boats and the British used the convoy system. American goods and raw materials were used to help the British; the Allies won.
  • Battle of the River Plate

    Battle of the River Plate
    Just off of the coast of Uruguay and Argentina on December 13th, 1939, 3 Ships of the Royal Navy (2 British, and 1 New Zealand cruiser) came into conflict with one battleship from the German fleet. This was the first naval battle of the Second World War. Although the 3 ships of the Royal Navy were badly damaged, it was considered a British victory due to the fact that it forced the German battleship to retreat to Uruguay for urgent repairs.

The attack first ensued during the night of November 11th, when small number of British Torpedo bombers flew over Taranto and wreaked havoc on the Italian warships, where their warships soon came in as well.     Battle of Greece
    Greece wanted to stay neutral, but was attacked by Italy on October 28, 1940. The German Twelfth army performed Operation Marita. Luftwaffe began a bombing campaign and Greece did not recieve any help from other countries. Greece was very outnumbered and The German army reached the city of Athens on April 27 and Greece's southern shore on April 30, capturing 7,000 British Commonwealth forces and ending the battle with a victory.

    Hitler sent 3 million troops into Russia and they were very suprised. Stalin immediately signed a mutual assistance treaty with Britain and then launched an Eastern front battle that would claim 20 million casualties. The USA offered similar help to USSR.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    Japan invades Pearl Harbor with the use of aircraft carriers and kamikazes. It took place after 8;00 a.m. using over 350 Japanese planes. The United States was currently in the process of negotiating peace with the Japanese. Japan declared war on America after the attack 2,403 people died, 188 planes were destroyed, and 8 battleships were harmed.

    This was the first time since Pearl Herbor that the Japanese were stopped from attack. It was fought in the waters southwest of the Solomon Islands and eastward from New Guinea. The Japanese were not able to travel to Australia because they did not have enough fuel. The United States won.
  • The Battle of Gazala

    Very important battle of the West Desert Campaign. German and Italian units and commanded by the "Desert Fox" were present at this battle. The Allies consisted of Erwin Rommel and he faced a very dangerous point in the mission, he did not have enough fuel to go on. He was very precautious but the Axis Powers won this battle.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    This battle was fought for three days. Chester Nimitz was the Admire and Commander of the Pacific Theater. This was a suprise attack. While the Japanese were fighting in Midway, they were planning to attack Pearl Harbor again and destroy American fleet. The Untied States finds the message, attack them first, and the U.S. are outnumbered and the Allies win.
  • Operation Torch

    A British-American invasion in North Africa. The Soviet Union wanted the United States and Britian to open a second front to limit pressure of the German army. An attack on French North Africa was made and cleared the Axis powers. Casablanca, Oran, and Algiers were targeted.

    The Axis powers controlled the territories in North Africa and the Allies had landed in Morocoo and Algeria. Some major battles that took place are the Battle of El Alamein and the Invasion of Italy. The Battle of El Alamein is to prevent the Nazis from getting oil. Erwin Rommel, Bernard Montgomery, and Eisenhower are the mail generals.

    Hitler was lacking power in remaining on the Eastern Front so he decided to focus German efforts in the South. His main goal was to take the oil fields. This was also called Operation Blue. This battle was between the Soviet Union and Germany. This battle was fought in the city and the ruins.
  • Italian Campaign

    The allies start the invasion in Sicily and Hitler sends troops to Italy. Mussolini is hung upsidedown and the Italian Resistance helps the Allies.
  • The Great Escape

    An attempted escape from the prisoner of war camp Stalag Luft III located near the Polish town of Zagan. This camp treated people much better than other camps. It is mainly for Bristish and American aircraft men who's planes have crashed on the Axis power line. Prisioners created an escape comittee. Dug 3 tunnels and hopefully let 200 prisioners escape. One of the tunnels were found and only 76 men escaped.

    DDay stands for Descision day or Dooms day. The allies invaded Normady and France. Eisenhower was the main general during DDay. During this battle, beaches were divided into 5 different points. They were Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach, It was also the largest land sea operation in the militatry.

    This battle was between the Americans & British vs. Germans and it took place in Paris, France. Hitler planned to dress up German Soldiers to look like Americans, budge up the supply line, and stop allied forces to go into Germany. Eisenhower was again the main general. During the battle, the Germans ran out of fuel and concluded them into a loss.
  • The Bombing of Dresden

    35,000-135,000 were killed in Dresden because of the Allied firestorm. So many bombs were dropped that it caused a firestorm, the city kept burning and this caused the oxygen to lessen. The roads melted resulting into people burning their feet when they ran. When it was over, the SS guards took the bodies and brought them to a camp and burned them.

    The Battle of Berlin was the last major battle of World War II. This battle involved the Soviets (The Red Army), and the German forces. Both sides had over 350,000 casualties, and the city of Berlin was left in ruins. Near the end of this battle, Adolf Hitler and many of his other officers committed suicide, in recognition that the war had been lost.

    VE Day is also known as Victory in Europe Day because the Germans surrender and fight the Japanese. Hitler commits suicide.
