    First day of WWII, known as the "Marco Polo Bridge Incident". It was a battle between the Republic of China's Army and the Japanese Army. It was important because it was the starting point of WWII and it started the fighting between China and Japan.
  • Molotov-Ribbentrop Treaty

    Molotov-Ribbentrop Treaty
    The Molotov-Ribbentrop Treaty was a treaty that allowed Germany to attack Poland on September 1, 1939 without fear of the Soviet Union intervening. It also stated that Germany and the Soviet Union would not attack eachother and the agreement was supposed to last ten years. This was important during WII because it states that the Soviets knew about Germany's plans before any other countries and didn't warn anyone.

    The Battle of Britain was the name of a successful defence of the United Kingdom by the British Air Force from an attack by the German Air Force. It was the largest sustained bombing campaign to that date. This defence was important because Britain's victory saved the country from a ground invasion and possible occupation by German forces.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On this day, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese kamikazied as one of their main attack strategies, and they ended up destroying 300 american planes and 8 extremely big battleships destroying 20 US naval vessels in all. More than 2,000 US soldiers died. This point in the war was so important because it marked the point that America entered the war and it pushed the US into the war.

    On this day, Germany officially declared war on the United States of America. On December 8, Japanese Ambassador Oshima went to German Foreign Minister, Von Ribbentrop to make the Germans declare war against America, since they were allied. This day was very important in the war because it involved Germany directly in the United State's military.

    Executive Order 9066
    The order authorized the secretary of war to gather all Japanese, German and Italian Americans(Mostly Japanese) and put them into internment camps. The order was made so that after Pearl Harbor, the people of America were not constantly afraid of people of Asian possibly killing them because they thought that they might be loyal to their homeland than America. This was and important point in the war because it showed how Americans felt about Asians and it was against America's own constitution.
  • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    It was the forcible transfer of 60,000–80,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war from Saisaih Pt. and Mariveles to Camp O'Donnell by the Imperial Japanese Army. Thousands of the POW were killed/died on the march. They were starved, dehydrated and beat by the japanese and forced to constantly march, nonstop. It was an important point in the war because thousands of people died and Japan further demonstrated their brutality.

    In the battle, the Japanese were seeking to control the Coral Sea with an invasion of New Guinea but they were stopped by the allied forces. This battle was important because it marked the first air-sea battle in history, and it prevented the Japanese from gaining control of the Coral Sea.

    It was a naval battle in the pacific. The United States were able to pre-empt and counter one of Japan’s planned ambushes of its few remaining aircraft carriers and inflicted permanent damage on the Japanese Navy. It was such an important battle because it was the turning point in the pacific war campaign.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    This was the day of a major battle during WWII between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union for control of the city Stalingrad.It was and still is, known as the single largest and bloodiest battle in the history of warfare. More than half the battle was fought inside the city limits and a lot of it was house-to-house warfare. This battle was important during WWII because it secured the Soviet Union from being overtaken and was pretty much the last major battle of WWII.
  • Battle of Guadacanal

    The Battle of Guadacanal's main goal was to take the island of Tulagi. It was the first major offensive victory for the Allies in the Pacific. It was an American surprise attack on one of the Japanse air bases that was under construction. This battle was important because it marked America's first Pacific offensive victory and because the Japanese suffered way more casualties than the U.S.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch
    It lasted two days, and it was the British American invasion of French North Africa during the North African Campaign of WWII. Particularly after the French territories of Algeria and Morocco. The importance of this operation was that it allowed the United States to complete the mobilization of its industrial and manpower resources for the large amount of air and ground battles that took up most of the Allied campaigns of 1944.
  • Operation Husky

    The allies decided to move against Italy in an attempt to possibly destroy the fascist regime so they attacked Sivily first to be able to then move on to the mainland of Italy. The allies won and after attacking Sicily, immediately started planning the attack on main Italy. This operation was so crucial to WWII because without the successful invasion of Sicily, then they would not have made it to Italy and destroyed the fascist regime, powering a lot of the European soldiers' will to fight.

    On this day,160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline currently under German control, it was Normandy. It was and currently still is, the largest sea, land and air overtake ever. It was so important to the war because it allowed the allied powers to transport troops to and from Germany for easy land invasions and just because of how incredibly large the attack was.

    The Battle was fought in Wallonia-Belgium, France and Luxembourg toward the end of World War II in Europe. It was the costiest battle ever fought by the U.S., they suffered over 100,000 military casualties. It was important in WII because it cost the Americans a lot of soldiers and it taught them to be less reckless early on.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    It was a meeting of Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, and Franklin D. Roosevelt to discuss the matter of what to do with germany after it fell. Stalin also agreed to enter the Asian war against Japan, for which he was promised the return of lands lost to Japan in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05. Germany was to be split into four occupied zones to be run by the three countries and France. This Day was important because it allowed the allied powers to have a plan for after the war was over.

    The Battle of Iwo Jima consisted of some of the fiercest and bloodiest fighting in the war of the pacific in WWII. The goal was to take control of the entire island of Iwo Jima, including the three Japanese-controlled airfields. To provide a staging area for attacks on the Japanese main islands. It was an important point in the war because of the amount of deaths, the advantage taking the island provided and how fierce the battle was.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    This battle was one of the biggest of the Pacific island battles of World War II. It was 287,000 soldiers of the U.S. Army against 130,000 soldiers of the Japanese Army. Japan lost around 77,000 soldiers and the Allies suffered more than 65,000 casualties and 14,000 dead. This battle was very important in WWII because of the massive amount of soldiers on both sides and the large number of casualties on both sides.

    US President Roosevelt dies so Truman becomes President. FDR suffered a massive cerebral hemorage which was what killed him.Truman then had an Atomic bomb to deal with. This point in history was very important because it burdened Truman with large shoes to fill and also caused lots of confusion.

    On this day, Mussolini and his wife were caught by Italian partisans and executed. Both him and his wife were caught fleeing the allied forces by the partisans and shot, then their dead bodies were hung upside down for everyone to see. This day was important because, Mussolini was Italy's Prime Minister, and with him gone, Italy would crumble or surrender.

    Germany unconditionally surrendered on May 7, 1945 Marking the end of the European conflict of WWII. The Germans signed their surrender at the Allied headquarters in Reims, France in order for the surrender to take effect the following day.
  • Potsdam Declaration

    Potsdam Declaration
    Stalin, Churchill, and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt had agreed to meet, following the surrender of Germany, to determine the postwar borders in Europe. But by then, FDR was dead so Truman attended and Churchill was replaced as well, halfway through the conference which lasted about 2-3 weeks. This conference was important during WWII because it involved all of the main leaders of the countries of the allied powers and it decided how Germany would be split to compensate for all of them.

    On this dreaded day, America dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The Japanese refused to accept the Allies' demands for unconditional surrender even though they knew they were going to lose the war, so America dropped an atomic bomb on them, in hopes of saving lives and ending the war because a battle on the main island of Japan would leave up to a million U.S. military casualties alone. This was an important point in the war because it was a huge decision for the U.S.
  • Bombing of Nagasaki

    Bombing of Nagasaki
    The Atomic bomb was dropped three days after the one in Hiroshima, killing an estimated 40,000 people. The original target was Kokura, but there were heavy clouds and so the pilot had to switch targets and head to Nagasaki to drop a bomb that was even more powerful than the one used on Hiroshima. This day was so important in the war because it was America's final bluff before they had to attack Japan on land, and it worked Japan surrendered after the second bomb, the last one America had.

    There was celebration and happiness throughout the allied countries on this day. August 15th has been declared Victory in Japan day also known as V-J Day. The Japanese Government had also agreed to comply fully with the Potsdam declaration, which demands the unconditional surrender of Japan. This day was important because it marked the very end of the war.
