The Soviet Union invades Finland, starting Winter War. Finland sues for an armistice and have to cede the northern shores of Lake Lagoda and the small Finnish coastline on the Arctic Sea to the Soviet Union. -
Germany Captures Paris
Germany captures Paris, and France surrenders to the Germans. Claiming revenge for his nation's defeat in World War One. -
The Battle of Britian Begins
The Battle of Britain begins. A three-month battle that was fought in the skies over Britain and included destructive bombing raids on London and other cities, but by the end of October the British handed Hitler his first defeat. -
The United States Declares War on Japan
The United States declares war on Japan, entering World War II. Japanese troops land in the Philippines, French Indochina, and British Singapore. -
Germany Begins its Assualt on Stalingrad
Germany begins its assault on the Russian city of Stalingrad. A battle that lasts for six months, and take hundreds of thousands of German and Russian lives, the Red Army finally defeats invading Nazis. -
D Day
When more than 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history and required extensive planning. -
Japanese Surrender
Japan surrendered after the United States dropped their second atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. -
First Atomic Bomb is Dropped
The United States dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The United States had been working to develope an atomic bomb weapon since they were warned that also Germany was trying to conduct atomic weapons.
