It was a german offensive. This caused alot of supply trouble. This ended up being very costly to the Germans. -
American troops land on Iwo Jima
The 23,000 Japanesse soliders on the island fought troops through networks of caves and trenches and tunnels. The island was taken by american troops 1 month after the invasion of Iwo Jima. -

Victory is acheived in the European thearter. -
Atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima
This bomb was dropped to make Japan surrender. About 80,000 were killed and another 60,000 would die from the fallout. Even after this Japan did not surrender. -
Bomb dropped on Nagasaki
The second bomb was dropped to force the Japanesse war council to surrender with an unconditional surender. -
