    A project to see who could create the first atomic bomb. A race. After Albert Einstein sent a letter to FDR about it being even possible to crete an atomic bomb, the word got out and the race began for the first atomic bomb to be built.

    Germany invaded Poland using a form of attack called blitzkrieg. Had sucessfully taken over Poland by the third, three days. Also to be said, the start of World War 2.

    The Phoney War was early in World War II that was marked by United Kingdom and France not doing anything against the Germans. The phase covered the months following Britain and France's declaration of war on Germany.

    All food was rationed after the start of the war, in order to send out food to the troops. You were only allowed a certain amount of food, depending on the size of your family depended on how much food you could recieve. While meat, was priced on its weight.

    Rescue of Dunkirk
    The BEF was trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk. They had no where else to retreat to, due to the German forces surrounding them. Ships had to sail their ships to the beaches and tranport them. This is one of the greatest rescues of all time. It took a matter of nine days to rescue all the soldiers. Even though 348,000 soldiers were rescued, many thousands of soldiers were lossed as well.

    Germany invaded Europe and attacked the BEF from the North, which they weren't expecting. They attacked from all around and forced them to retreat to the city of Dunkirk. Where the Battle of Dunkirk happened.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Germany invades the Soviet Union, therefore bringing Stalin into the war. Stalin joing the U.S. and Britain on the allied powers. Hitler codenamed this, "Operation Barbarossa."

    Japan bombs the Pearl Harbor killing thousands. The result of the attack, having the Unites States declare was upon Japan.

    Mass murder of the Jewish people at Auschwitz begins. During this time, approximately 6,000,000 Jews were killed. The Nazis believed that Germans were "racially superior" and that the Jews, deemed "inferior." So he gathered up all of the Jews, and put them into concentration camps.
  • Battle of Midway

    The midpoint of the battle. This is the point where the U.S. broke the Japan code and was able to figure out where and when they planned to attack. The U.S. was able to stop defending, by knowing where they would attack. They defeated the Japanese to where they retreated. Which, while they were retreating we followed one of their planes. Where we found their carriers and bombed the carriers and battleships.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Germanys first major loss. Germany invaded the Soviet Union, controlled by Stalin which therefore broke their treaty with one another, and tried to take over Stalingrad. Considered among the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare. Due to harsh Russian winters and Stalin's army, the Germans faced their first defeat.

    D-Day
    D-Day, when some 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region against Germany.
  • Iwo Jima

    Iwo Jima
    A volcanic island 750 miles south of Tokyo, took place of one of the main battles during the island hopping. After the battle, a flag raising was hed at the top of the mountain, where a United States flag was raised to show the victory of the battle.

    FDR Dies
    Franklin D. Roosevelt dies, due to the fact of having polio. Harry S. Truman, vice president at the time, took over as president of the U.S. Who, later declared the atomic bombing of Japan.

    Battle of Okinawa
    Codenamed "Operation Iceberg". It was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific War of World War 2. Used to take over the island of Okinawa in order to get closer to Japan.
  • Germany Surrenders

    Germany Surrenders
    Russias reach Berlin, which is occupied by the Germans at the time. After some time of fighting and battling, the Germans surrender, and Adolf Hitler, leader of the German army, commits suicide.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day
    Western allies crossed the Rhine after having overran West Germany. German collapse came after Hitler's death amid the ruins of Berlin, which was falling to the Russians. The unconditional surrender of Germany was signed at Rheims on May 7.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    In order to stop any more U.S. casualties from happening, the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hirochima. The bomb ended up killing 78,000 people, and injuring 100,000 more.
  • Nagasaki

    Three days later after dropping an atomic bomg, a second atomic bomb was dropped. This time, the bomb had been dropped on Nagasaki, killing another 40,000 people.
  • Japan Surrenders

    Japan Surrenders
    Japan surrenders to allies, signs rigid terms of warship. Truman set this day as V-J day. This day also concluded World War 2, and put it all to an end.
