WW2: The Other Side.

  • German Appeasement.

    German Appeasement.
Hitler has appeased throughout the whole of World War 2, even before the war started. He demanded what he wanted and he got it because no one wanted to start a war, but look how it ended. In the picture, this shows the Nazis as greedy looking, scary sea monsters that look as if they want to attack the person in the middle of them. He is offering them a lolly-pop each and is saying "one more for each of you then it's time to go home".
  • The Holocaust.

    The Holocaust.
Though The Holocaust occurred throughout the whole of World War 2, some people still argue that it never happened. There are various areas where you can visit around the world that proves directly that the Holocaust did in fact occur. Places like Auschwitz in Germany- one of the biggest death camps- show where people were gassed, worked to death, starved to death and directly shot. The image above shows a man saying that the Holocaust never happened...yet.

  • Dunkirk.

    Dunkirk.
The evacuation of Dunkirk occurred on the 26th of May, 1940, when 340,000 allied troops were pushed back onto the shores of Dunkirk, Northern France, as this was the only direction that they could move. This happened because Winston Churchill knew that Hitler's gateway was Belgium, so he tried to make sure that Hitler didn't get what he wanted once again. But Belgium surrendered in late May, leaving Hitler to invade and claim what he had won yet again.
  • Battle of Britain.

    Battle of Britain.
Once Hitler's forces had overrun France after the victory of Belgium, he began planning his invasion of Britain. This was titled "Operation Sea Lion". Churchill stated "The fate of British life all weighed upon the Battle of Britain." Luftwaffe began bombing on the 10th of July, first London, then on the 7th of September and continuing for many months. Hitler's air force was soon defeated and he clearly stated "If we destroy the USSR, all hope will have vanished for Great Britain.
  • Stalingrad.

    Stalingrad.
This was Hitler's biggest mistake, sending his troops in summer uniforms to a place where the winter would hit hard. They got caught, only a few miles from home. They could have made it to turn back, but Hitler said not to, that they would still win this battle. Stalin thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to attack, so he did. The Nazis were butchered, they couldn't go on.
This was an embarrassment to Hitler as he had thought so strongly that he would win this, but he was wrong...
  • Axis attacks on USSR.

    Axis attacks on USSR.
    This was Hitler's biggest mistake.
Germany began their invasion of the Soviet Union and Luftwaffe quickly won against the Soviet airforce, completely destroying them. "Operation Typhoon", the attack of Russia, began on the 22nd of October 1941 but Hitler was abruptly halted by the chilling winter weather of Russia. His army soon weakened, and Stalin saw this as the perfect opportunity to attack them while they weren't strong enough to fight.
Needless to say, Hitler was defeated.
  • Pearl Harbour.

    Pearl Harbour.
This was a battle between Japan and the USA. Japan bombed Pearl Harbour, where they lost 8 battle ships, 3 cruisers, 3 destroyers and 3 auxiliaries. The Japanese were successful in their victory, almost wiping the USA completely clean defeated. Later on in 1945, the USA bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki as revenge on the Japanese for bombing Pearl Harbour.
  • El Alamein.

    El Alamein.
This was a massive turning point in the war as the allies were victorious. In El Alamein, a desolate town in Egypt, these two battles took place.
  • Japan loses to Australia.

    Japan loses to Australia.
Over many long months, the Japanese fought with the Australians at the Kokoda Track, where the battle finally came to an end. The Japanese had nowhere else to go, they were pushed to the brink, the edge of the mountains.
  • D-Day.

    D-Day.
This was a major turning point in WW2, especially in Europe. On the shores of Normady, France, the allies fought it out for many long months. The allies were victorious.
  • Germany Surrenders.

    Germany Surrenders.
Germany surrendered one day after Hitler's death. This ended most of the fighting, but Japan kept the bloodshed going. They didn't surrender until much later on.
  • Hiroshima bombed by USA.

    Hiroshima bombed by USA.
Hiroshima was the first to be bombed in Japan by the USA in August. On the 6ht, Hiroshima felt the shock of an atomic bomb called "Enola Gay" sent from the USA. The other bomb was dropped on Nagasaki on the 9th of August; both of them killing millions of innocent people.
People say that the USA dropped the bombs on Japan as an act of revenge after Pearl Harbour.
  • Nagasaki bombed by USA.

    Nagasaki bombed by USA.
Nagasaki was the second of the Japanese places to be bombed. With Hiroshima only bombed 3 days beforehand, Nagasaki was deeply shocked. This bomb was dropped on the 9th of August, 1945 and these bombings ended the war in an attempt that was successful to force Japan to surrender.
