China had many resources. This s one reason why Japan invaded China. Japan did not have the natural type of resources that China did, therefore the decision was made to invade. This would give Japan access to a variety of resources. -
Rape of Nanking
During the time of 1937 was the Sino-Japanese War. As a result, the capital of China were in the hands of Japanese forces. The Japanese destroyed the city of Nanking and attempted to kill many people. They raped many women and girls and killed thousands of men. -
Kristallnacht
"Night of Broken Glass", is also called the Kristallnacht. It was an act of atteck and violence against the Jews. This was planned by Hitler and the Nazi Party after Hitler became chancellor of Germany. He felt that during his childhood he was unsuccessful because of Jews and this is one of the reasons for his attack. Thousands of Jews were killed and sent to concentration camps. -
German Blitzkrieg
Blitzkreig is a military German term for "lightning war", which was used as a strategy defense. They advanced in preserving lives and creating distraction in battle. It was first tested in Poland in 1939 and then used in further invasions of Belgium, the Netherlands, and France in 1940. It was also used by German Commander Erwin Rommel during the North African campaign of WWII. They also began using tanks, aircraft, and other mobil warfare to use as a defensive target. -
Germany's invasion of Poland
Germany forces invaded Poland from the air and on land. According to Hitler, taking over Poland would allow more living space. Poland did not want to make amends and agree with Germany to become one. The Soviet Pact allowed Germany to invade Poland so Hitler won't have to go to war with France and England. When Poland was captured many were killed and others were put to for Germany. This was the start of WWII. -
Battle of Britain
This was one of the major battles of WWII. It was a battle between Germany and Britain in an attempt to gain air superiority. It was a fight for power over the skies of Britian. Germany tried for months to gain control over the RAF but this was a cause to prevent Germany from invading Britian. -
Operation Barbarossa
Hitler had now invaded Russia and have already taken control over Greece, Belgium, Poland, France, and others. Operation Barbarossa was the code name for Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1942. Over 4.5 million Axis Troops invaded the USSR. Barbarossa's goal was the rapid conquest of the European part of the Soviet Union west of a line connecting the cities Arkhangelsk and Astrakhan. This was because Hitler claimed that the German people needed more living space. -
Pearl Harbor
The bombing of Pearl Harbor occurred on December 7, 1941. The attack on Pearl Harbor was caused by the Japanese Navy against the U.S. naval. -
Wannese Conference
The Wannese Conference was a meeting of senior officials of the Nazi German regime. It was held in the Berlin of Wannese on January 1942. The purpose of the conference was to inform leaders of Departments responsible for policies relating to Jews. After the Wannese conference the Jews had more rights. -
Battle of Midway
The Japanese were trying to capture the island for use as an air base for operations against Hawaii. They also hoped to draw the U.S. Pacific fleet into a battle where it could be destroyed. The U.S. had broken their codes, so they knew they were coming but they didnt know the U.S. knew. As a result the U.S. were able to send out three aircraft carriers against theirn= four. After Midway, the U.S. beat Japan back across the Pacific for the next three years. -

The Battle of Stalingrad stopped the German advance into the Soviet Union and marked the turning of the tide of war in favor of the allies -
Baatan Death March
The Baatan Death March was very brutal. On this day people were brutally abused, and demolished during the walk. For example, if people wanted water they had to get it from dirty streams filled with maggots, leeches or perhaps they would get shot. This occurred as a result of trying to get 76,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war by the Imperial Japanese Army. This was done after the three month Battle of Battan during WWll in the Phillipines. This was the death of many prisoners. -

Operation Gomorrah was a series of air raids conducted by the RAF on the city of Hamburg beginning in the end of July 1943. It was at the time the heaviest assault in history of aerial warfare and was later called the Hiroshima of Germany by British officials, -
D-Day (Normandy Invasion)
During the D-Day invasion, the allied forces made a battle plan to storm the beaches of Normady, France. Unfortunately for the Allied Forces, the troops stationed in Normady knew of the plans to the storm beaches. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers died on D-Day because because the troops in Normady were well prepared for an invasion. This event happened in order to end WWll, they wanted Germany to surrender in order to remove Hitler as dictator. -
Liberation of Concentration Camps
In Germany there were many concentration camps that held prisoners against their own will. Thousands of these prisoners were held to work. These prisoners suffered from starvation and disease. U.S. forces helped to liberate more than 20,000 prisoners from the concentration camps. -
VE Day
VE Day also known as Victory in Europe Day was the end of WWII in Europe. The cities put out flags, and banners, and rejoicing in the defeat of the Nazi War Machine. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs
The dropping of the Atomic Bomb occurred on August 6th and 9th of August 1945. This was the dropping of a bomb on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagaski. On these days many lives were lost. This also caused harm to the environment and there were many defects in humans as a result from radiation from the bomb. Many of the offspring from the survivors have mental disabilities and have been known to get all types of cancer. This was a bomb that was dropped by the U.S. -
Vj Day
The Vj Day stands for victory over Japan Day. This is the day when Japan officially surrendered hence effectively ending WWll. This event happened on August 1945. This day was the signing of the surrender document by the United States which included Newzealand, Western Europe, and Austrailia.
