  • Richard Russel

    Richard Russel was an American Politician from Georgia, and spoke for the Georgia House of Representatives for a short period of time. He was also the governer for Georgia and despised Japan. Richard was a part od the Democratic Party.

    Holocaust

    Hitler and the Nazi party blamed the Jews for causing WW1 and making them lose the war. Up to 6 million jews and around 12 million people over all. People were killed in concentration camps, on the streets, and even in their own homes. Things like Anne Frank's diary helped us know what it was like durig those times.
  • Carl Vinson (V-TA)

    Carl Vinson was voted into congress in 1914 and the Vinson-Trammell Act authorized production of battle ships in the US.
  • WW2 Breaks Out

    World War 2 was officially announced on September 1st of 1939. One of the leading causes was that Germany invaded Poland. Two days after the invasion, Britain and France declared war on Germany.

    Bell Aircraft

    Bell Aircraft was a company that helped with America's military supply. They manufactured many of the planes used in WW2. They built the first super-sonic plane, and were bought out in 1960.

    Brunswick Shipyard

    The Brunswick Shipyard was located 70 miles south of Savannah. Before the war, Brunswick was mainly used for trade. They had 16,000 workers built 99 ships during the war. Each Liberty Ship took around 85 days to build.
  • Lend-Lease Act

    Although the Lend Lease Act (LLA) was proposed in 1940, Roosevelt signed it on March 11, 1941. The LLA was practically a permit for the US to give supplies to other Nations during WW2. US was paid back after the war. Americans were uneasy about this due to previous situations such as The Great Deprerssion
  • Pearl Harbor

    The Japanese planned a suprise attack on the US military base, Pearl Harbor, near Honolulu Hawaii and killed thousands of people. Their main goal was to cripple America's military supply. America ended up joining the war due to this attack.

    Savannah Shipyard

    The Savannah Shipyard was located on the river, east of the city. This shipyard built 88 ships during its running time through the war. Due to all the men being overseas, they hired many women to work for them.
  • D-Day

    D-Day was the Battle of Normandy, an Allie invasion on the axis powers. The Allied powers tricked the Axis powers into thinking they were in a different place at the time of invasion.

    Yalta Conference

    The Yalta Conference was a meeting between Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill. When WW2 was winding down, these three leaders came together and demanded Germany to surrender. They also planned fotr after the war.
  • Hitler's Death

    HItler was th4e leader of the Nazi party and was the person to blame for the holocaust and the start of the war itself. He killed himself in his own bunker with a gun, and his wife (of less than 40 hours) did the same with cyanide. His body was cremated but wasn't pronounced dead until 1956.
