    The Start of one of the bloodyest wars known to man.
    WW1 started when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria go assasinated while in Serbia.
  • The Schlieffen Plan

    The Schlieffen Plan
    The Schljeffen Plan was a war stratagy used in WW1 by the Germans. The Plan was to invade France from the north by traveling into Belgium in order to avoid the Western Front. The plan was practically impossible as train timetables and other factors would interupt the arrival of the soldiers.
  • Germany defeats the Belgium town of Liège

    Germany defeats the Belgium town of Liège
    On the 7th of August Germany defeated the town of Liège.
    This was the first town to be defeated during the Schleiffen plan.

    on the 24th of August the German army progressed further into Belgium and take over the city of Mons

    On the 25th of August the German army took the cityof Namur from Belgium.
  • The invasion into France

    The invasion into France
    Finally the German armys had reached the French border with Belgium. On the 25th of August they first entered France and the invasion had begun. The German army entered France from the north, using the city of Mons.

    The Germans managed to retreat the french for 200 miles until the British arived and aided the French. This was the first real battle between the French and the Germans. In the end the French and British managed to drive the Germans back to the Belgium border where they both built trenches

    The Raace to the Sea

    The race to the sea was a series of flanking attempts that France and Germany continously made to try to get around eachother. The race started in the city of Champagne and continoued into citys such as Picardy, Artois and Flanders but none of these attempts were sucsessful and the both just ended up at the North Sea. The race was ended by the Allied victory in the 1st battle of Ypres and the battle of Yser

    The first battle of Artios took place in Artios, France. And like many of the battles in the race to the sea it ended in a stalemate.

    This battle was to be won by the Allied Forces and allowed Belgium to retake part of their land.

    The battle of Ypres was fought over by both sides. France managed to succure the city and the battle was halted until the winter had past.

    The second Battle of Ypres

    The second battle of Ypres was fought over once again once the winter had past. The battle was the first time that the Germans decided to try and use poison gas to their advantage. In the end the battle ended in a stalemate.
    In the battle there were 95,000 deaths. 37% were German and 63% were British/French

    The Battle of Verdun

    The battle of Verdun is more commonly known as the bloody battle. 400,000 Men died from the Allies and then 350,000 from the Germans This was the highest in the entire war. It was also the biggest battle in the entire war. The battle was won by the Allies after the plans of building forts surounding the city.
  • The battle of Sommoe

    The battle of Somme was thought to be the big rebuttal that France needed and was hoped to end the war. It was to be fought over a 7 day bombardment. The first bombardment on the 1st of July was a failure and 20,000 Britain soldiers died and nearly 40,000 captured or injured. Although it failed to drive Germans back it did convince them that they didn’t want another bombardment from Somme.

    The battle to retake Arras was successful by the British and had the highest causalities per day, killing 4,070 men per day. This was the highest in the war.
  • 3rd Battle of Ypres

    3rd Battle of Ypres
    The third battle of Ypres ended on the 6th of November and ended with the Allies retaking Ypres
  • The Black day of the German Army

    On the 8th of August the German army was forced to retreat all the way back to Mons. This was the end for the German army and both sides knew it
  • Peace at Last

    Germany admitted defeat in late October and on the 11th of November at 11 am, the guns were dropped and peace was declared. Germany had lost
