    Even while the pact was in the process of being certified, Hitler was planning his invasion. He signed the pact so they would not be prepared for his advance. This made them sure that they could not trust him.

    The U.S. defeated the Japanese. This was their first real defeat of the war. They pushed the Japanese back.

    This was the end of the Italian support for the Germans. Italy surrendered itself to the British and U.S.A. They had agreed to join the Allies.

    The Allies freed Rome from Germany. This should have taken place earlier since Italy had surrendered in September. It took longer than expected because the Germans were still fighting.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    This was when the Allies started their attack on Germany. General Eisenhower led the invadors to the beaches of Normandy. Capturing this port was an important start for the Allies.
