Japan signs the Treaty of Shimonoseki.

Joseph Stalin, Soviet leader, thought this was the best way to establish peace between themselves and Germany. Knowing Germnay was on the path to start another wast Stalin wanted more time to build up the Soviet military.

After surrounding these three areas, they stepped back and invaded poland from the east. This left Poland no way to exit. Forcing Poland to be under their controll. Thus starting WWII.

    Operation Barbarossa was the code name for the German invasion of the Soviet Union. About 4 million soldiers from the Axis powers invaded the USSR along a 1,800 mile area. This was known as one of the largest invasions in the world. The Germans won and successfully gained control of Ukraine. On the negative side for Germnay, they could never re-create that type of invasion again due to the ammount of fatalities.

    The Battle of Okinawa was the last and largest Pacific battle between the USA and Japan. This battle continued on for 82 days. While the USA was island hopping, they came accross the Okinawa island and had plans to use it as an air base for military. Shockly Japan didn't like that idea. This battle was supported by naval ships and aircrafts. This resulted in a United States victory.

    In 1945 the United States dropped an atomic bomb over Hiroshima. This was the first deployed atomic bomb. The bomb destroyed 90% of the city. The bomb also killed 800,000 people. Not only were the effects immediate, but long term as well. Months after the bombing people would die from radiation exposure.

    V-J Day is Victory over Japan Day. This signifies the day Japan surrendered from WWII. Thus progressing towards the end of WWII. Once Japan signed the document the offical end to WWII was declared. On September 2nd, there was a ceremony in Tokoyo Bay to celebrate the end of war. This honored the mourning of war, dead, and praying for peace.

    The Warsaw Pact was known as the Treaty of Friendship, Co-Operation, and Mutual Assistance. This was a collective treaty between eight communist states of Europe during the Cold War. The Warsaw Pactwas formed by the Soviets in response to the western expansion of Germany. Also to contain military forces in Central and Eastern Europe. Soviets tried to accomplish peace within Europe.
