The capture of Iwo Jima was an accomplishment for the United States Marines, and United States Navy from the Japanese. 216 Japanese soldiers were taken into custody while many more died in action with losing 7,000 Americans and having 2,000 more wounded. After a great win for the U.S. the island was declared secured on March 26th, 1945.
